Damon's POV

Chapter 25: You Have Got to be Kidding Me

We're all in the parlor - Stefan, Lacey, and I, making jokes and laughing. Eventually Elena shows up - much to my annoyance, acting all 'cozy' with Stefan. Now that he's back, things are going right back to normal between the two of them. I want no part in it. Instead, Lacey and I makes faces and gagging noises, which I only laugh at. I'm sure it pisses them off but that's really half the fun. Lacey now sits by the fire, warming her hands. Vampires don't really get cold but I guess she's special or something. Then again, I knew that all along. I watch as the embers flicker and dance around the fireplace, lighting up the room.

"Hey, I'm going to get a drink." Elena says to Stefan with a glowing smile. I can't help but feel a pang of jealousy at the way she looks at him. She rises, heading towards the kitchen. A few moments after, I hear a surprised yelp, followed by the sound of glass colliding with hardwood. I stand up to see if Elena is okay. The others follow behind me. Elena is on the ground, there's shattered glass on the floor. Her arm's cut pretty badly. She winces. "Ouch."

"Are you okay?" Stefan asks. She nods. "I think so."

I hear a low growl from behind me. I turn around, just in time to see Lacey, with pointy fangs emerging from her gums. Only, instead of red eyes, hers are a dark yellow shade. Is that new, or have I never noticed before? "Lacey?" I whisper. She pays me no attention. Her focus is on Elena. "Lacey, don't." Ignoring me once again, she pounces. "NO!" I shout, as Elena's screams are heard throughout the room. Stefan jumps in front of Elena before Lacey can even touch her.

I held Lacey back as Stefan comfort Elena. "Snap out of it."

"Chill, Lace. You're going to have to calm down.. Deep breaths." I tell her, gazing into her now yellow eyes. Yellow, red, brown, Lacey is still family. I will help her no matter what. I raise her chin to meet my eyes. She does as I say, taking slow breaths, then closes her eyes, reopening them to show off her usual toffee ones.

"My god." She whispers.

I'm so sorry. So much blood... I don't know what's wrong with me." Stefan gives her a reassuring smile. "I'm not even going to pretend I don't know whatthat feels like."

Her lips curve into a slight smile. "Lacey, a few moments ago, when you were about to feed, your eyes were yellow."

Stefan nods in agreement. She looks at us with curious eyes. "What? You said vampires have red eyes."

"They do."

"What does that mean?"

Stefan and I exchange glances. "We think it means you're a hybrid."

Lacey's POV

"A hybrid? Like... Klaus? Half vampire, half werewolf?" Damon nods. "Think about it, Lace. You've never turned, so that rules out you being a werewolf, and there isn't a single vampire with yellow eyes. Vampires don't get cold, and werewolves turn every full moon. I've never seen you before a kill so I've never seen your eyes before, and have you realized we never made you a daylight ring and yet you don't burn in the sun?" My eyes widen. "Okay. So I'm a hybrid. But how?!" Stefan thinks for a moment, his brow crinkling. "Your dad has anger issues. He could've been a potential vampire, but had yet to activate the curse."

"Okay, that's possible, but what about the rest of it? Isn't becoming a hybrid like really complicated?"

"First you have to die with Klaus's blood in your system." Damon says. "But you died with Stefan's." I shake my head. "No. I didn't."

Flashback:

Matt comes back at last with a glass of punch. I smile, taking it. I'm sick of dancing, I'm exhausted.

I drained the cup in seconds. Wiping my mouth, I get a sickening feeling. I grab my head. The world begins to spin right before my eyes. I fall to my knees, clutching my stomach in agony. The punch must be spiked. I've had drugs before, but never like this. At least 15 different concoctions must've been in that. "Lacey?" Matt says in a worried voice, as he clutches my hand. "Matt." I gasp. "My stomach. It hurts so bad! It's killing me!"

"Help! Someone! I think there was something in the punch!" Matt shouts, panicking. Everyone gathers around. "Is there a doctor here?!"

Nothing I do is making the pain go away. Just as I'm sure I'm about to take my final breath, someone pushes through the crowd, holding my hand.

"Lacey, love. I can help you, okay? Don't close your eyes, darling." I don't know what's happening, I can't even see my rescuer. ButI know the voice well enough. Klaus. Something is shoved intp my mouth, a warm liquid drips down my throat. Klaus holds my head, forcing the substance down. It's warm and inviting yet my body seemed to scream for me to resist. He slowly moves it away, and I feel myself regaining back my energy.

I felt fine. It's as if nothing even happened.

"So he fed you his blood?"

I nod. "Stefan's must've been out of my system by then. What's the next step to becoming a hybrid?" I ask.

"You die. Which Mikael took care of."

I nod, shuddering at the memory. "Then you have to drink doppelganger blood to complete the transition." Damon said. "You never had any. Right?"

I shrug. "Klaus force-fed some kind of blood into me. He had those spare doppelganger bags lying around that he'd stocked up on because he'd left not too long ago. For all we know, it could be."

"If that's true, you'd be a hybrid."

"So... That's it, then? I'm a freaky multi-species beast?" Damon shrugs. "That's kind of awesome, I have to admit. Best of both worlds and all. Lace,  that means you're sired to Klaus." I gasp. "When you say sired, like how sired..." I asked. "You do whatever he asks. No matter what." I think for a minute. It couldn't have effected my emotions. I'd turned him down plenty of times since then. Right? Oh god...

 Shocker?
