(A/N) Oh snap, it's MeganRylie55 's birthday! Here's a surprise little birthday fic for you <3
Lafayette awoke to a nightmare; John Laurens making a mess of his kitchen.
"Mon ami, what on Earth," Laf quietly exclaimed, shocked yet still wary of waking his adopted family.
"Good morning, Laf." Laurens grinned while making little circles of batter on a pan, "I love your American flag PJ pants."
Lafayette rubbed his eyes as Hercules appeared behind him, wrapping his arms around the taller boy's waist as he beckoned for him to come back to bed. Laf chuckled and turned in Herc's arms, kissing him on the forehead, he fibbed, "In a few minutes, mon amour, our dear Laurens has his plate full."
"Do not. I know what I'm doing." John insisted, smiling, "I'm making a special birthday breakfast for a special birthday boy."
"Let us help, you managed to get batter on the cabinets and flour on the floor," Laf observed with a chuckle, leaving the comfort of his boyfriend's arms to put the milk, which was left on the chaotic counter, in the fridge.
A shy smile spread across Laurens' face as he nodded, "If the pancakes taste awful then at least he knows I made them, but I don't really understand scrambled eggs."
The three friends shared a laugh and continued to cook and clean, all while discussing today's plans in a whisper. By the time they entered Alex's room, it's was about 12:30 in the afternoon and he was still silently snoring; a telltale sign that he was reading or writing into ridiculous hours of the night.
Laurens slowly laid on his stomach beside him. Gently shaking Alex's shoulder, he coo'ed, "Baby Lex, time to get up."
While John had intentions of a soft awakening, Lafayette and Hercules had already had too much coffee. So they exchanged sly grins that were immediately followed by them flinging their bodies on to the couple, "Happy birthday!"
Alexander groaned, squeezing his eyes shut as he attempted to turn his body underneath his friends. Failing, he opened his eyes and mumbled "Mornin' to you too,"
"Afternoon, my man," Hercules corrected, "and we made you brunch!"
Alexander chuckled and sat up as he watched his friends scatter to run out of the room. They returned with ridiculous grins, four plates of food, and a cup of coffee.
"I made the pancakes, Laf had the eggs, and Herc got the bacon." Laurens beamed, taking his seat on the bed next to Alexander.
"That would explain the dry batter on your cheek," Alex laughed, licking it off and causing Laurens to squeal.
"But really, you-you really didn't have to do this. You guys are the greatest," Alex sighed, setting his plate on the bedstand to pull his friends into a tight hug.
"Full disclosure, Laurens had the idea. Hercules and I simply awoke while he was tearing apart my kitchen." The group laughed, all settling on Alexander's bed to watch Netflix. Hours later, Laf, Herc, and Laurens put their second surprise into action when Alex left for Debate Club's usual Saturday get-together.
Hours later, Alexander drudged up the steps to the house he shared with his foster family. He was dominating during the beginning of practice but Jefferson had him in a corner by the end. Now, all he wanted was John to cheer him up.
As the front door creaked opened, Alex jumped at, what felt like, a million voices shouting "Surprise!". In reality, there were only twenty or so people. Still, that didn't stop him from holding his chest.
"Happy birthday, my love!" John ran from behind the couch and practically tackled Alexander is a hug.
"Happy birthday, my sweet boy," Martha, Alex's foster mother, pulled the two boys into a hug and planted a kiss on the crown of the younger boy's head.
This was followed by several "Awww's" as the group hug grew, Alex's closest friends and family wrapping their arms around the group. Then, to everyone's shock, Alexander began to sob into Laurens' chest. Concerned faces moved around the room as everyone stepped back to give the boys air.
"Baby, what's wrong?" John shushed, rubbing calming circles into the back of Alexander's shirt.
Alex drew back from his boyfriend and glanced around the room at the many assortments of balloons and banners, "N-no ones ever done this for me before. My mom was too poor and there were too many kids at the orphanage. I-I just love you all so much." Alex let out a small laugh and sniffled as Laurens wiped his thumb over the joyous tears.
"Well that's a good thing because none of us are going anywhere." John planted a soft kiss on Alexander's lips and then on his forehead, "Now who's ready to get this party started?"
The fourth birthday in America and first in the Washington home. It was truly a night that Alex couldn't forget, even if he tried.
