The apartment was still as nightfall crept through the windows. Alexander grumbled in his sleep and attempted to pull some of the covers from John. He was such a blanket hog, always leaving Alex in the cold on accident.

Alexander rubbed the sleep from his eyes and turned on his side to face his boyfriend. Drool, messy hair, and all, John was still the beautiful man that Alex fell in love with. Alexander kissed his head before leisurely rising from the bed to retrieve a spare blanket from the hallway closet.

Upon returning, Alex heard murmuring coming from John, who remained sleeping. He cautiously approached the bed to see that John's peaceful features were now ones of concern.

"John, honey?" he breathed.

"-ander..I...ate-ing." John mumbled in response. Alexander sat on the edge of his bed wondering whether or not he should wake his boyfriend. On one hand, the concerned features may pass and relax. On the other, they may escalate into a nightmare.

John wasn't one to sleep. Yes, he got more rest than Alexander but it still wasn't enough. Besides, he looked calmer already. Thus, Alex ignored his conscious and settled on leaving John to rest, taking a while to drift into sleep.

Their positions shifted during slumber, resulting in Alex laying on his back as John cuddled up to his side, his arms wrapped around Alexander's torso and his head laying on the younger man's chest. It couldn't have been more than an hour later when Alex woke to more mumbling coming from John.

"S-sorry," he tensed his arms around Alexander, "I'm not...I love him."

Alexander slightly shook John in an attempt to wake him up and stop his painful grip. "S-stop," the sleeping man mumbled. Alex attempted to wiggle out of his grip but to no avail, John just held on tighter.

Suddenly his head jerked and the mumbles began growing, becoming more audible and louder. He began perspiring and Alexander shook the poor boy with more force as he began twisting and turning, almost thrashing, and yelling things along the line of "It's who I am!", "Stop!", "Don't hurt him!", and "I love him!"

Alex shot up and shook his boyfriend violently. Panicked, he exclaimed "John! John, wake up!"

Eyes shooting open, John abruptly sat up gasping for air. He turned to Alexander with shaky breaths and wide eyes pricked with tears. "I-I love you, okay? Just know that I love you."

Alex felt like he was going to cry from seeing his boyfriend so distressed, "Of course I know that, John." He wiped John's tears before grabbing his hand and holding it with both of his own, "You're okay now, alright? I love you and we're safe. Whatever happened in your dream isn't going to happen, okay?"

"But it can, Alex!" John was still shaking and Alex attempted to soothe him by pulling him into his lap. He was a sweaty, damp mess but that didn't matter.

"What happened, love?" Alexander wrapped his arms around John and began slowly rocking back and forth. John laid his head on Alex's shoulder only to pick it back up a few seconds later, "You know how you're supposed to meet my dad soon?" Alex nodded.

"He doesn't know we're dating. He-he gets aggressive sometimes." John stared at his hands resting in his lap, "I don't know how he's going to react. I don't want him to hate me or to hurt you. I love him, Lex. I love you."

Alexander kissed the top of his head, "And I love you" he paused thinking of what to say next, he wasn't typically one to comfort others but he'd do anything for his boyfriend. He spoke softly, "I'm sure everything will end up fine. Maybe he'll accept you and maybe he won't but there's no point in stressing over something you can't control."

"Alex, I- we've been serious for a while." John stammered unsure of his words, "If-if we have kids then," he sighed, "I want them to have grandparents in their lives. They're going to have aunts and uncles galore with our friend group but I want them to have grandparent figures. Neither of us had those."

Alexander nodded slowly before stating "I'll have George adopt me." John chuckled as he continued, "He's already my father figure and Martha loves me, I love them. I'm positive that Martha will be the stereotypical grandmother and spoil our kids rotten but no matter what happens with your dad, they'll have someone."

John smiled and the two kissed. Alex broke them apart, "We should get back to bed, it's early."

"I'm showering first." John insisted, unsticking his hair from the back of his neck.

Alex grinned, "Can I come?"

John stood up laughing, he grabbed Alexander's hand and led him to the bathroom. The shower was more relaxing than sexual; washing each other's hair and massaging their scalps, speaking of their future together. No matter what it held, they'll always have each other.

That's a fact.
