P r e s e n t

Zach raised his fist once more, his anger fueling every ounce of strength in his body. With all the force he could summon, he drove it into Asher's already battered face.

Asher staggered back, but this time, he didn't retreat. He had always stepped aside before—for Zach's sake—but not tonight. Not anymore. Dianna had been right. He'd let the guilt eat away at him for far too long—the guilt over a mistake that wasn't even his.

Zach lunged forward again, but Asher was ready this time. He blocked the blow, countering with a solid punch to Zach's stomach. Zach was sent stumbling backward, barely managing to catch himself on a nearby table. He glared at Asher, eyes blazing with fury, unwilling to back down. The fight was far from over.

Zach lunges forward, his grip tightening around Asher's shirt at the collar. His voice low and seething with rage, he growls, "I'm telling you, Asher, stay away from Dianna."

Asher meets his gaze head-on, his cold grey eyes unwavering, challenging Zach to do his worst. "I won't," he replies with quiet determination. "Do what you want, Zach. I love her. I won't let her go."

The words hit Zach like a punch to the gut, igniting a fury inside him so intense it clouds everything else. His vision turns red, his body brimming with rage as he raises his fist, ready to strike once more.

But before the blow can land, a voice cuts through the chaos.

"Zach, stop. Please."

Both Zach and Asher freeze, their eyes snapping to the left where Dianna stands, horrified, tears streaming down her face.

"Please, stop," she pleads, her voice trembling with desperation.

"Dianna..." Asher whispers, his hardened expression softening as his heart aches at the sight of her pain.

"Don't call her name," Zach seethes, his anger radiating from every part of his body as he glares at Asher. He lifts his fist, aiming to strike again, but Asher quickly dodges, shoving him backward. Asher can't bring himself to continue the fight, not with that horrified expression on Dianna's face.

But Zach's rage is all-consuming, and he charges forward once more, grabbing Asher by the collar. His fist hovers just a breath away from Asher's face.

Then, a painful cry echoes through the room, sending a chill through Zach's stomach.

Dianna.

He freezes. The sound of her distress hits him like a wave, and in that moment, all of his fury dissipates, replaced by a growing sense of dread.

Zach and Asher both turn in unison, their eyes locking onto Dianna, who is doubled over, clutching her stomach. A gasp escapes both of them when they see the blood spilling from her mouth. It pours out in thick, crimson streams.

The color drains from both of their faces as they stand frozen, helpless, watching in horror as Dianna continues to vomit blood. She looks down at the dark red liquid spilling from her lips, her eyes wide with fear. Slowly, she lifts her gaze to meet their horrified expressions, mirroring the panic in their faces.

"What's happening to me?" Dianna's voice quivers, raw with fear. Her body trembles, her knees giving way beneath her. Before either of them can react, her form goes limp and she collapses into unconsciousness.
