over the course of a month , after the whole hugging incident, jin and jay were nearly inseparable. they spent lunch together, and most after school days.

jay even snuck out a few times to hang out with jin.

jin had insisted she stay home, to save the risk of her getting in trouble, but she insisted. jay would rather be anywhere else but home.

jin would be lying if he said he wasn't falling for her. everyday, she would smile, despite the numerous bruises that littered her face and body.

jay had refused to tell jin about who was causing the bruises. the list started with her brother and ended with his goonies that attended her high school. jay knew better than to admit to anyone what was happening.

especially jin. jay knew that if she told jin who was hurting her, he would no doubt step in and try to be a hero. he would probably try to fight her brother and get him arrested, but what jin would fail to realize is that if he did that, there would be the goonies after him.

jin wanted to help, but he couldn't help someone who didn't want it. jin figured that in order to understand the complexity that was jay, he had to interrogate the person closest to her.

hannah.

jin found hannah strolling with chanyeol to their second period, hand in hand. jin smiled softly at the sight, slowly approaching with caution.

"oh, hey jin!" hannah chirped, being the first of the pair to take notice of jin.

"hey, hannah. do you mind if i ask you a few questions real quick?" jin asked shyly. of course he felt bad for intruding their couple time. he would hate if someone came and interrupted his and jay's alone time. he felt a bit hypocritical.

"sure, jin. what's on your mind?" hannah asked, chanyeol sneaking a protective arm around hannah's shoulder. jin took notice of his friends jealous behavior and shook his head.

"uhm, it's about jay," jin smiled. chanyeol loosened his grip and this made chuckle in a silent whisper.

"what about her?"

"well, it's about the bruises. she keeps getting them and i was wondering if you knew anything. even if it's something small," jin murmured, trying to keep the conversation between the three of them rather than the whole school.

hannah's eyes widened for a fraction of a second before she coughed in shock. hannah pulled the two men into a more secluded part of the hallway, ensuring nobody was around, especially jay.

"look, i'm gonna keep it as vague as possible because if jay knew i even breathed a word about her past, she will have my head on a plate," hannah whispered. jin nodded his head and chanyeol just eyed her suspiciously.

"okay, about a few years ago, jay's parents were going to drop jay off at her baseball practice. her parents were arguing and jay was trying to play mediator. but that made them even more angrier and jay's dad took his eyes off the road for one second and..." hannah tensed up.

jin shook his head, disbelief evident on his features.

"no..." jin breathed out.

"they ran into a semi, head on. jay's parents died on impact and jay was in a coma for a while. when she woke, her older brother became the legal guardian. after the incident, jay quit baseball and became an introvert and jay doesn't say much about anything anymore," hannah muttered.

it explained so much, jin thought. jay had a hard time opening up to jin and although in the beginning they fought, jay always apologized for that. it clicked in jin's head.

"so, now you know. i killed my parents. and you want to know the kicker, jin?" jay snapped. the trio met the eye contact of a severely pissed off and betrayed jay.

"the person who leaves me the bruises... my brother."
