Charles groaned softly as he opened his eyes slowly. He went to bring his left hand up to scrub at his eyes but found that it was pinned under something heavy. He panicked for a second but after a moment it all came flooding back to him. What had happened after he came back to his room the previous night.

He had made his way back upstairs after dinner, for some reason he was feeling quite tired. He had just wanted to change into some pyjamas and read a few chapters of his book before going to sleep. Instead as soon as he had opened his door he had been faced with a dark figure standing next to the window, back turned away from Charles, looking out over the extensive grounds.

There was no mistaking who it was. Charles would know Erik Lehnsherr anywhere. The man had heard Charles enter and turned to face him. Charles couldn't see much of Erik in the dim light, but he could tell the man before him was either tired or just plain exhausted. Erik was leaning forward slightly, shoulder hunched and he looked smaller somehow.

Charles had no idea what to say and it seemed as if Erik didn't either. Several minutes must have passed and the two just looked at each other. Charles opened his mouth to ask what the hell Erik was doing here but the man answered the question before Charles had a chance to ask it. He stepped forward.

"I don't know why I came here Charles. I was sat in my motel watching some game show I had never heard of before when a question on genetics came up. The first thing I thought was 'Charles would know that' and the next thing up know I'm on a train here." Charles didn't know what to say, before he could stop himself he came out with.

"You, watching a game show. I don't believe it." Charles internally cursed himself for saying something so stupid but Erik just smiled slightly.

"Yeah I don't either but well at least now it's been proven that they are good for something." Erik replied.

"What's that?" Charles asked gently.

"Brought me brought back to you."

Charles smiled at the memory and the fact that Erik was back and if Charles had his way the man half on top of him would never leave again.
