Apparently, STAR Labs only had time to care about one of their 'miracle cases.' After I left and never experienced anything strange, they simply stopped caring. Barry, the man in the other hospital bed, was still not awake yet, but it's been half a month since I woke up. Iris said that he should be waking up any moment now.
It's not that I'm mad that STAR Labs didn't care anymore, I actually preferred it that way. I didn't need them trying to dig up stuff about me, even if they wouldn't find anything.
I enjoyed my job at the CCPD. The very first 'interesting' case we got was a group of terrified citizens that were hostages in a bank robbery. They claimed that there was a storm inside the bank as if the man had conjured it up. Now, I knew this was possible, but the other cops, not so much.
"Detective West!" I called, going up to his desk, where he was standing with his new partner, Detective Thawne. Or, as Iris called him, Detective Pretty Boy.
"Please, Rory. Just call me Joe." He said, turning to me. "What's up?"
"I know that you think it's impossible, that the victims had seen a storm inside the bank, and I know that you're going to think that this is even less likely, but the sketch artist came back with this. And I confirmed it with multiple victims." I said and handed him the drawing.
"Mardon? He's dead." Joe said, handing back the drawing.
"Joe, I know what happened to your partner was terrible, but think about it; if Mardon is alive, you can get justice for Chyre," I said. I looked to Eddie.
"Detective Thawne."
He nodded. "Dr. Winters."
I then left to go meet Iris at Jitters for her lunch break.
"Rory! Hey!" Iris smiled, waving me over to a table. "I'm on break for our lunch, but I'll go make us some free coffee." She said, smirking. As she began making the coffee, the door to the cafe was opened quickly, and, naturally, I turned to see who it was.
The boy at STAR Labs. Barry Allen.
"Iris!" He called.
She turned confused, and smiled widely, rushing over to him, forgetting about our coffee.
"Barry!" She said, hugging him. "You're up!"
He nodded, grinning. Iris then remembered our coffee. "Oh, shoot. Sorry, Rory, I'll get the coffee!"
Thanks for bringing the attention to me, Iris.
"Hey, I'm Barry Allen." He said, walking over to my table and sitting down in front of me.
"Rory Winters," I said, smiling. "How's Cisco?" I asked.
"You know-"
"The workers at STAR Labs? I'm not surprised they didn't mention me. I was in a coma, like you. Woke up just half a month ago." I smiled.
He nodded. A barista walked by, and by the looks of it, was about to trip and drop her coffee. "Watch out!" I yelled. She dropped them a few seconds later.
Barry stared at the mugs strangely for a few minutes.
"How did you know that she was going to trip?" He questioned.
"Lucky guess?" I lied.
He nodded slowly. Then his phone rang. "I gotta go to the police station. Tell Iris I had to go and that I'll see her later." And then he quickly departed.
Iris came back soon after with our coffee and a couple chocolate chip cookies.
"You are awesome, Iris West," I said, smiling at the cookies. They were my favorite.
She laughed. "Come on, let's go walk to your house. I wanna see my favorite puppy." She suggested, smiling.
I laughed, nodding.
We were about halfway there when we saw a police chase go down. The police car crashed into a wall next to us, just brushing past us. Iris fell to the ground, I made sure she wasn't hurt, and then ran after the car, which had flipped over a few ways away. The guy in the car got out, and I saw that he was, in fact, Clyde Mardon. Just as I reached him, the street was covered in fog. I couldn't see, so I relied on my other senses.
I could hear a car coming. Oh no. The driver wouldn't be able to see the flipped over car. Acting quickly, I ran over to the right, landing in the grass seconds before the blast of the car hitting the other car. It was seconds too late, and I got hit by a piece of debris, and as I lost my vision and slipped into unconsciousness, I could faintly make out two voices yelling my name.
Why am I always the one to get knocked out?
I'm v sorry if this chapter sucks, it took me a while to figure out how to go about this. I changed the original plot very slightly like Barry doesn't see Eddie and Iris. He will later, though.
