Pre-Author's note:
The above photo is what I think of Derek as. It's not exact but it's close enough for me. I actually don't know who he is in the photo.. But ignore this if you want:))He took my luggage and said,
"So, you're my new roomie?"
I looked at him, stunned, but I smiled at his words.
"I guess I am," I stated while rolling my other luggage outside. I felt his stare on me as I walked to the car, he opened the truck and my luggages went in, I kept my backpack on to study on the ride.
I was so nervous on going to this unit, but my worries have faded since I'm rooming with this boy, I don't know why, it just happened.
I went to the passenger door, but before I could open it, someone opened it for me, I looked back to see Derek smiling and motioning me to go in. I blushed at his actions, but I didn't let him see because I was already in the car.
He got into the drivers seat and started the engine, and began to drive. I pulled out my notebook and worksheet and began to study a bit. But that got interrupted when Derek pointed at my notebook,
"Schoolwork huh? At the unit they have great classes you'll have to take-"
I interrupted him this time and said, "too bad I'm not doing them," I smirked and continued my work.
He laughed and said, "Lucky you, but they're mandatory,"
I sighed, "well if you didn't know I'm already in college to become a doctor so doing those stupid classes would be just reteaching me stuff I already know,"
"Oh really? How old are you?"
"18."
"So am I..." He said with a confused look on his face.
"Graduated early, got straight A's and was on the deans list, got a full scholarship to college," I said causally.
"What?!? That's amazing, too bad your stuck in the unit,"
"You don't even have a clue,"
We stayed silent for a bit, but I had to ask him,
"How did you end up here?"
He looked at the road and his grip on the steering wheel tightened, I looked at him and he glanced at me, making his eyes and hands soften.
"Parents think I have a problem since I work out too much, doctors thought it would be better to put me in the unit, their treatment crap isn't working so I'm staying for the next couple of weeks,"
He looked at me and I gave him a small smile, he asked, "you?"
I rolled my eyes, "Got food poisoning from my own mother, can't eat food anymore without vomiting. Dropped too much weight and now I'm here."
"Well damn, good luck on getting out,"
I was about to ask what he was talking about but we pulled up to a big building that had 'Palos Anorexic Unit 014' in big bold letters on the front. I put my notebook in my backpack and scanned the entire place. It was a fairly nice place, had a big entrance with clear windows around it. Only a couple people walking in and out of the building, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Derek pulled up to the 'Residents' door and parked in a spot and got out, I collected my backpack and again, before I could open my door Derek opened it for me, I blushed once more, but this time he could definitely see it. I walked out and put the backpack on my back and got one luggage from the trunk, Derek insisted on taking the other one.
"This is home," he spoke in a quiet voice. "This way," he said pointing out a side entrance.
We walked in and the first thing I noticed was a cute woman sitting at the front desk, it was small, but cute. I looked at Derek and he was walking straight towards her, so I followed.
"Hi Derek! Who is this?" she spoke softly and looked at me.
"She's a newbie" he chuckled and peered at me.
I rolled my eyes and spoke up, "I'm Roseanne Parker, I'm pretty sure I was talking to you on the phone."
"Oh yes!!! You'll do great here." She said while clapping her hands. "Let me sign you both in," she began typing some stuff in her computer and pulled out a sheet of paper and handed it to me.
"You need to sign this, it just says that you agree with staying here and any injuries cannot be blamed on us and blah blah blah..."
I signed the paper and returned it back to her.
"Here's the key to your room, you're number 216 on level 2, you will be rooming with..." She looked up and said, "Derek for the next 3 weeks"
"Great," I said sarcastically and took my key.
"Let's go," Derek said and began to walk to an elevator, he looked back and waved to the woman and she smiled in return.
We got out of the elevator in silence and he showed me the way to 'our' room.
The room was a decent size, I walked in and saw two twin beds on the left, with a nightstand next to each one. The far wall had lots windows that were completely opened, looking over a small forest. There was a connected bathroom with double sinks, a shower and a separate bathtub. The bathroom connected into a walk-in closet filled with Derek's clothes.
I walked out into the main room to see Derek leaning against a wall on his phone, with my luggages right next to him. I went over and grabbed my luggages and touched his phone,
"Whatcha doing?" I said looking into his phone.
"Oh nothing," he said with a laugh. He walked over to his bed and plopped down on it.
I took my luggages and began unpacking, and I glanced at Derek, This unit wasn't going to be too bad.
