^thank you maddy for this I love you maddymunchThe diner they brought me to made me.. excited? It was a little diner by where we live that I have never seen before. I actually always thought it was a bowling place. I have never been there before and I was excited I guess to hang out with Derek.
The diner wasn't that big, it had a couple booths and tables and about 4 waiters/waitresses. The place was nice, the floors and booths made out of wood that had a chestnut stain. The booths were lined with soft cushions that where a deep red color. The cashier stood in front of a stand that had a bunch of counter space and pastries in a glass/wooden case. The cashier herself was about I would say 5'6, and she had dyed deep red hair, her natural hair being a dark brown. She had dark skin that brought out her hazel brown eyes. Her figure was curvy and she definitely was a really pretty girl but if she would leave her hair natural and wouldn't wear the tight black skirt, crop top and a cardigan she to me would be gorgeous. But what am I saying, she has the body to wear that.
I sighed wishing I had some curves, not that I don't it's just I wish I had more. Oh well.
Derek, Jon, Javier and I sat at a booth right by a large window at the back of the diner. The guys were having a conversation about some football person from some college that were going to see them play, and I took this as a sign to turn on my phone. Yes, it has been a while since I have been on my phone. Normally I wouldn't cause I have photos and memories on there I don't want to look at again.
When I turned on my phone, I realized that I should have checked it way sooner than I actually did.
I saw 44 messages, 18 missed calls, and countless notifications from a couple social medias. First I checked my messages since I had so many. I noticed that 40 out the 44 messages I had were from Maddy, I opened those first.
M: Hey Rosie-poo, imy and you need to start replying to your texts.
M: Do you have classes today? Coffee and the mall?
M: I guess your not free, I'll text you another time.
M: Look, it's been 2 weeks with no reply, don't you get out soon?
And countless more messages from her. I responded,
R: Sorry! I shattered my phone screen and it took forever to replace, we'll hang out soon, I promise.
Something clicked in my mind from the last text,
"Don't you get out soon?"
No one has even considered taking me out and I didn't bother asking. When I first got here they said I would be here for three weeks. That would be this Friday. (Today was Sunday) I assumed I would just stay with Derek until he left and I would get a new roomie but when do I get out? I pondered the thought for a couple more seconds and continued reading my other four messages.
Two of which were from an unknown number, and one was from Carly, and the other was from Jack.
Carly and Jack? Shit, When did they text me? When did they have phones? Honestly I wouldn't know anyways since we barely spoke a sentence to each other.
I opened Carly's message and saw this,
"Roseanne, how are you? We need to talk, you can't just leave me and Jack forever. I'm your sister, so please respond and we can talk about things. I'm sure you heard about mom. It sucks I know. You didn't know but Jack and I set up a funeral for her that was last week, we decided not to tell your since your life is as crazy as it is. Please respond."
Anger coursed up within me and I felt tears prick at my eyes. I refused to think about my mother since her death and I haven't shed a single tear. They didn't invite me to my own mother's funeral?! You've got to be shitting me.
I decided to look at what Jack said and he said was more harsh,
J: "Rose, call me, don't hide like you did for your whole life and not say a word. Mom's dead and dad's insane and it's just us now, and I don't know what to do. Carly and I are out, well not really but we are out of the strict rehab place. We moved to a roomier place that we like and people can visit, come soon."
The waitress came over before I could check anything else or respond. I order a coffee just because and was about to pull out my phone again when I heard Javier speak.
"What are you reading?," he says while putting his own phone in his pocket,
I look up at him and he's staring at me, with his blue eyes now a shade deeper. I shift in my seat uncomfortably not wanting to tell him about my siblings or family.
"Why?" Yeah thats a stupid response but I had nothing better to say.
He says nothing as he leans back in his chair. I glance at Derek who's sitting beside me. He gives me a curious look and turns his attention back to Javier.
"I'm just texting a friend," I say calmly.
Javier nods his head and I decide I want to speak, "Where did you guys meet?"
Jon laughs and spoke, "We all lived in the same neighborhood, we've been friends for years,"
"We used to play soccer together," Derek adds, "Before we even knew what football was,"
"Remember the field that used to be there before that build a park?" Jon says
Javier laughs "I remember beating your ass when you said you could outrun me,"
Derek rolls his eyes but laughs, "I tripped! So it didn't count,"
I laugh and look down at my hands. They had a really great bond between the three of them, I could tell. The waitress came with what we ordered and I didn't take a sip of my coffee. We all talked for another hour in the diner and they said they wanted to go to see a movie, I decided to pass.
"You don't want to come?" Derek asks as we exit the diner. Jon and Javier are laughing at something stupid.
I sighed, "I would but I need to do a couple things, I'll see you back at the room?"
"I'll drop you off," Derek said getting into the drivers seat. I stood outside and shut his door as he rolled down the window. I leaned on the Derek's car and rolled my eyes.
"Derek I'll take an Uber, its not a big deal," Derek gave me a look.
"I can just drop you off so you won't have to-"
"Derek!" I spoke getting annoyed slightly, "I can take an Uber I'm a big girl," I said getting my weight off the car and crossed my arms.
He laughed, "Okay sweetie, see you later then,"
I giggled and pinched his cheek like I did earlier in our room, "Don't miss me too much you big baby," I smiled and let go of his cheek. He blushed slightly and I laughed, he didn't say anything.
"Bye Derek," I said stepping away from the car, and he drove away, honking.
