Kataang (Partial AU)

Katara's POV-

"Aang!" I yell as Ozai hits him with lightning. I use my water whip on Ozai to distract him from Aang. Ozai shoots fire at me but I dodge it. I wrap water around him and he struggles to get loose.

"Katara," a weak voice says behind me. I turn my head and I see Aang laying on the ground.

"Aang!" I yell and I scramble over the rocks to him. I immediately get down on my knees. "Aang, are you OK?" I ask him.

"Watch out!" he yells. I move to the left and a blast of fire hits Aang. I face Ozai again and he lightning comes out of his fingertips. I use water to rise me up in the air.

He strikes the water with the lightning. Since water is a conductor for electricity, I got electrified. "Katara," Aang croaks.

"I'm fine," I say quietly. My head is spinning as I stand up. I look over at Aang and see that he's not breathing.

"AANG!" I scream as I run over to him. Ozai chuckles evilly. "No, no, no!" I bring out my healing water and try to heal him back to life. Nothing is working. "How could you?" I yell at Ozai.

"Now I can become supreme ruler!" he yells. I start crying over Aang's dead body and I hear something stir near me.

"K-Katara?" a soft voice says. I open my eyes and see Aangs eyes open, staring at me. "What's wrong?"

I hit him and then hug him. "I healed you," I say, tears running down my face.

"Wha-" Ozai roars and fire spews out at Aang and I. Aang jumps up and uses earth to block the fire from us.

"You will not hurt us again," Aang says deadly serious. "Time for you to say goodbye."

I get up and Aang and I circle Ozai. He tries to shoot fire at us both but we block it. Ozai starts to run away but Aang kicks his foot and earth shoots up where Ozai's foot was going to go. He falls and smacks his head hard on the ground.

"Is he dead?" Aang asks quietly. I walk up to him and I flip his body so I can see his face. I don't see his chest rising and I look up at Aang. "No! Airbender aren't supposed to kill! It is against everything I've ever learned!"

"Aang, its fine," I say walking over to him to comfort him.

"No its not!" he yells.

"Aang, calm down! We just neutralized a major threat," I say firmly. I look at him and tears are running down his face.

"Airbenders are good people," he says quietly. "Not killers. But I changed that."

"But it won't change anything!" I say. "You're still you and that's all that matters."

"I-I need to be alone for a while," he says, turning away from me.

"Aang-"

"Katara, I'll come back when I need too." Aang flies off on his glider and I sigh. I sit down on the rock and Momo lands on my shoulder. I pet him and he nuzzles into my hand and neck. It seems like I wait forever and Aang finally comes back.

"I think I'm kinda better," he says, sitting down next to me, petting Momo's head. "I will be better when I'm with my friends though."

"Aang, that hurts me too that we killed someone," I say softly. "But you got to remember that you are still the goofy kid who I met in the iceburg."

"Thanks Katara." I lean in and we kiss. He pulls away, resting his forehead on mine. "You're always there for me even when I'm rude. That's what I love about you."

"Maybe we could go peguin sledding after we go back telling then that Ozai's dead," I suggest.

"That'd be great," he says, smiling at me.
