"You have an attitude on you, young lady!" Dad growled. "I suggest you snap out of it."
I closed my eyes and nestled my head into the soft sofa cushions, even though it wasnt exactly a comfortable colour for me.
I didnt mind the colour red, i just didnt wear it. No red shoes, no red jeans, no red lipstick or nail polish.
If i fell over and my knee or whatever part of my body had been hit would start to bleed. I liked the colour red then, because i love blood. Sometimes when i accidentally cut my finger in technology at school with one of the knives he leaves scattered around the workshop, i would sit there licking my wound and then Mr Daverson would have to take the knife off me before i cut my finger again and suck all the blood out my finger.
"Are you listening to your father?" Mum's shrill voice rang in my ears.
"Not really." I said truthfully. "Hes not my dad either, and you are not my mother."
I had used this against them many a time. It didnt work. When all the kids in my school had iPhones, i asked mum for one.
"No Alexs, they are very expensive and very easily breakable. But here, lets go buy you a Nokia!"
So i was stuck with a brick for phone. The only plus side was that the Nokia was indestructable.
But Danny bought me a Blackerry Bold for my birthday 2 months, 3 weeks and 6 days ago and i love it. Its black, so of course i love it.
"I SUGGEST YOU START LISTENING OTHERWISE I MIGHT FEEL TEMPTED TO CUT OFF YOUR ALLOWANCE!"
I raised an eyebrow. They have hardly ever given me anything. My room is painted because me and Danny painted it, not them. Its also only got a carpet because my brother called a decorator in to come and cover the floor and he also bought all my posters with the money he works hard for. (He works for a shipping company because no one else would have him because of his tattoos. He also works part time in a tattoo parlour.)
"I dont have an allowance." I said, blowing my fringe out of my eyes.
Fang crept round the edge of the sofa, his green eyes focused on my hand that was dangled in mid air. He let out a loud meow, shoving his head into my palm and crawling up my arm, his razor sharp claws digging into my flesh.
"Bloody hell Fang!" I winced as he licked my face, turned a full circle five times, and sat down on my stomach, his sleek black tail twitching.
I like Fang. He was a stray cat that I found a few months ago when i went out for a long walk. I walked right down to the sea front, then dropped my bag and took off my old tattered shoes and ran into the water until i was entirely, deeply submerged in salty waves, just sinking with my eyes closed and letting go of the world.
That was until someone thought i was drowning and leapt in to grab me, but i wasnt drowning i was just relaxing under the water because its quiet there and all i can hear is the sound of the waves as they pass over my head. But when the person tried to haul me up i forgot i was underwater and screamed, then i swallowed a lot of water and all the oxygen i still had in my lungs bubbled away and i couldnt breathe so i lost strength and stopped struggling.
As soon as i was up to the surface i swam back to shore, grabbed my bag and shoes and set off at a dead sprint. Then i was nearly sent flying by a small, scruffy little ball curled up on the side of the road, half dead. The little ball of matted fur looked up at me and squeaked. I picked him up in my soaked hands and held him to my chest and started running again and didnt stop until i got home.
"Get the cat off the sofa, Alexs." Mum sighed, sipping her tea.
"Hes not on the sofa. Hes on me." I stroked Fang's bitten ears, tapping his dry nose.
"Dont cheek your mother." Dad glared angrily at me.
"Shes not my mother though, is she? No."
I got a very hard slap round the face, and my left cheek was throbbing and stinging. Fang hissed, arching his back as i rubbed my cheek.
"You horrible child!" Mum shrieked. "I adpoted you, therefore you are legally my daughter."
"Not biologically though." I snapped.
I bet my mother would accept me for who i am. Whatever my style, and whatever music i listen to. It'll be hard to find someone like that.
