Chapter 2 - First Meetings
Cassadee's and the marauders first year.
James was looking forward to finally going to the wizard school with his little sister. He had waited years for this moment, standing at the pillar entrance to platform 9 ¾ he had never felt more excited. The black haired girl next to him felt quite the opposite. She clutched on to her brothers hand with her own clammy one, trying to ease her nerves even slightly. Yet when she looks up into his eyes she can see the excitement and wonder.
James had always been a hero to Cassadee. He was only a few minutes older than her but he was always the braver and more outgoing one. Especially after the incident. She had always wanted to be more like her brother, not letting anyone walk over her dreams. She thought Hogwarts would be the place that she could do this, where she could become the person she had always dreamed to be. Yet there she stood more terrified than ever.
Their parents ushered them forward and through the pillar where James looked around overjoyed and Cassadee in wonderment. Neither of them could believe they were this close to a new beginning, new friends and a new school. James looked over to his sister, knowing she would be freaked out and like any brother, he was scared for her. All he wanted to do was make sure she was okay and protect her from everyone and everything until the day he died and even after that. Yet he already felt as though he failed at this. Rarely were they separated as he knew how shy she was without him.
It was understandable for him to be so surprised she was already talking to an auburn haired girl with a smile on her face. He could still feel her clutching his hand with her nerves but yet she seemed happy and comfortable with a person that was not him. A tiny feeling of jealousy ran through him but was gone as quick as it came, pride replacing it.
Cassadee had accidently bumped into a girl in her haste to keep up with James.
"I'm so sorry!" She squeaked, afraid the girl was going to shout like all the others at her previous school. "No it's my fault i should have been paying attention!" The auburn haired girl said, just as nervous as Cassadee herself. They fell into conversation, still not introducing themselves, until Cassadee heard her mother calling her name. "Cass, dear you've got to get on the train" Mrs Potter's voice drifted.
Cassadee turned to the other girl, "I'm sorry I have to go. I hope to catch up with you again at the castle!" With that she ran off, forgetting that in their conversation neither of them had given each other their names.
As she ran with her brother to the train, they loaded their luggage and set off to find an empty compartment. Cassadee could already feel herself filling with more confidence after she so easily conversed with the girl. As James and Cassadee sat down in a carriage they just looked at each other began laughing, from both excitement and confusion. "Cass..." James breathed out, "We are finally going to Hogwarts! We are going!"
"I know! I honestly can't wait! That girl was so nice! I feel better and more confident already!" Cassadee enthused.
James beamed at his sister, remembering the smile on her face and the twinkle in her eyes whilst she was talking to her. He was proud that she was excited, that she had already made a friend. This is the Cassadee that he had missed, the one that only he knew. She was becoming herself again. After so many years, his sister was finally coming back to him.
Ten minutes into the journey, the Potter siblings were happily conversing about the houses at Hogwarts when a boy with shoulder length black hair barged into the compartment. He slammed the door closed behind him and the shouts from the corridor that followed him were no longer heard. The boy breathed out a sigh of relief and started laughing, not acknowledging the two siblings that were staring at him confused and slightly apprehensively.
James was just as confused as his sister as they both stared at the new boy that had charged into their compartment. He glanced at his sister and could tell that their expressions were mirroring each other. Yet as he registered the look in her eyes, James could see the fear and nervousness glinting in his sister's eyes. He had to do something to calm her down before she had another one of her attacks.
"Excuse me." James tried to catch the boys attention, slightly having his desperation seep into his tone. Yet the boy either did not hear him, or chose to not acknowledge his politeness.
"OI, CAN YOU BE QUIET!" James raised his voice as he tried again to get the boys attention. He saw his sister flinch out the corner of his eye and immediately regretted shouting. But as he no longer heard the laughter he saw the relief in his sister's eyes but the anxiety was still there.
"I'm sorry Cass but it was the only way. Now..." James turned his attention onto the boy. "Would you care to either introduce yourself or leave my sister and I alone." James stated yet his question sounded more like a demand than anything. The boy looked at James his expression of disbelief held a hint of amusement. "The names Sirius. Sirius Black. Have you not heard of me?" The boy exclaimed with aggroance dripping from his voice. "No. should we have?" Cassadee spoke up after she had managed to calm her anxiety with James' help. "Yes, but I must say i'm glad you haven't! I can tell we're going to be good friends." Sirius said, sitting down and switching his gaze from Cassadee to James with a genuine looking smile on his face. "God knows i'm gonna need some friends when my family find out my plan." Sirius muttered more to himself, but the Potter twins exchanged curious and concerned glances. Yet in those looks they had agreed with each other, and Sirius himself, that they were going to be good friends.
They began conversing, swapping life stories, when a knock at the compartment door came. Cassadee looked up through the window and made eye contact with a striking pair of green eyes, belonging to another boy that looked to be around her age. She could see fear in them, the fear that she had in her own. The fear of themselves.
