Chapter 3 - Catching Up
As Remus and Cassadee got onto to the train they went to the same compartment that they always were in as the marauders. No students were in there so they settled down and began to talk. "It feels so different to be sitting in here without them. I can't believe how much has changed since then." Cassadee spoke, breaking the silence but blinking away the tears that built in her eyes. Remus moved from the other side of the compartment to sit next to his childhood friend. He put his arm around her, "I know cass, I really miss them too."
"He was my twin Rem, She was like a sister. We were all family. Maybe that's what made him do it. Family."
"We were all a family. Lily and James were like my siblings as well. I may not have known James as long as you but I still always saw him as a brother. You just have to remember, family was always a sore spot with Sirius... he may have just wanted his parents approval after all those years. I'm not making excuses for him, especially now, but he had to have had a reason that made sense to him."
"You are joking Remus. You have to be!" Cassadee's voice was stronger now yet full of disbelief.
"Tell me you don't honestly think Sirius was capable of selling out James!"
"Cass... I know you loved him but..."
"But nothing Remus! That has nothing to do with my beliefs in this situation! James and Sirius were like one person. Even I got jealous of their relationship sometimes, I mean it seemed like those two should have been twins!" A small smile crept onto her face, but disappeared as quickly as it came.
"Cassadee, you have surely seen all the evidence against Sirius, I want to hope that he didn't do it, I really do, but we can't pretend that it didn't happen. Who else would they have trusted?" Remus truly did want to believe that one of his oldest friends did not have the ability to sell out another so easily. Yet after all of these years, he slowly began to lose his hope.
"I can believe it Rem and I will. When I was at the ministry that was why I didn't find another way out earlier. I found something to prove Sirius' innocence. I just need to find the map." Her voice had begun to fill with hope and happiness, knowing that she could prove her friend's innocence.
"Cassadee, we made that map during our school years and Filch got it. How do you expect to get it back, let alone use it to prove something like that?!" Remus was honestly concerned for his friend. He knew that she was still not over the death of her family, neither was he, but he had begun to accept the idea that maybe their school years had been a front. After all of those transformations alone he had lost most of his hope and faith. Yet he forgot that Cassadee was the same. Somehow she still managed to have hope.
"You've got to just trust me Remus. Please." Her eyes as full of desperation as her voice. With those words she got up and walked to the door of the carriage. "I'll meet you at the castle. I've got somethings to take care of." Those were the final words she said to him before she had disappeared from his view.
Remus sighed as he slumped back against the seat. He did want to believe her, of course her trusted her, but he didn't want her to be hurt by false hope. She had already been hurt too much. With these thoughts he curled up in the corner of the compartment, under his jacket and looked out the window remembering old times as he slowly drifted into a sleep.
Three students were walking along the train looking for something or someone. They were being quite loud and held an air of urgency that surrounded them. Cassadee didn't really pay much attention to them as she walked swiftly through corridor in search of an emergency exit or the conductor. She knew that she had to get off the train somehow.
In her rush she did not seem to realise that the three students had not seen her so were still walking in a group, blocking the entire corridor. When she registered that she would need to move to the side it was too late and she had run into the student in the middle, causing them both to stumble. Without looking at them she got up, apologised profusely and carried on running down the train.
The boy stood back up and picked his glasses off the floor, looking at the back of the woman who had knocked him down. He tried to call out to her but she just mumbled an apology and continued on her way. He looked up at his two friends, their expressions worried yet full of confusion. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?" His voice full of curiosity.
"Nothing, I...I just thought I recognised her." The frizzy haired girl replied to her black haired friend whilst the red headed boy still stood there awestruck and speechless looking down the now empty corridor where the extremely familiar face had run down. "Ron?" Glasses turned to his friend and questioned the expression on his face. "She...She..." Ron could not form words as he still looked down the corridor. "Ron don't, we probably imagined it" The girl gave him a look to stop. The other boy still looked at his ginger friend with curiosity, "Yeah, she's right, it's nothing."
Ron knew what he saw and he knew that Hermione had seen it too, but they both realised that Harry had enough to worry about already. Yet he also knew that this is something he had to find out for himself, for his best friend. The three continued to walk along the train in search of a compartment. They found one with just a man curled up under a coat and sat down.
