I couldn't believe it. Well actually, I couldn't believe that I didn't know this would happen. Tears crept down my face.
Ethan tried to call me about 20 times a day over the weekend. I couldn't get myself to pick up the phone. And now I had to see him? I wanted to scream as I did my makeup and put my hair in a messy bun. I hadn't even told my parents we were broken up and I sure as hell was not gonna tell them why we broke up. I just wanted to crawl into a hole and never come up again. I shook my head.
"If anyone's gonna hide from the other it should be him." I said determined to myself in the mirror.
I sighed and went downstairs.
"Good morning sunshine," mom smiled.
"Morning," I tried to give her a convincing smile back.
"When does Ethan get here?" dad asked me and looked at the clock.
He usually came early to pick me up.
"Um he's not coming," I took a bite of apple.
"Are you driving?"
"Yeah we're going on separate cars today." I tried to ignore the pain I got in my stomach when those words came out of my mouth. I just couldn't tell them. Not yet.
Lizzy pouted. She and Ethan had gotten real close after we took her and Rosie trick or treating. They even had their own secret handshake.
"I gotta go," I said quickly before they would start to ask, why.
I was kind of nervous for chemistry not only because I sat next to Sam who was Dinah's brother but also because Danny and Tyler were in that class too. Justin had already tried to come up with a crazy lie about how "Dinah just walked in and kissed him", I couldn't take another lie from them.
When I walked inside the classroom everybody stared at me like they felt sorry for me or something. Everyone except for Danny, Tyler and Sam of course. I tried to ignore them and went straight to my seat.
"Told you this would happen," Sam mumbled. I snapped.
"Would you shut the fucking up?" I said, quite loudly. Again, everybody looked at me. "Oh mind your own business." I rolled my eyes.
I heard Tyler chuckle.
Tyler and Danny caught up with me when I was walking to math class.
"What do you want?" I asked them plainly.
"To ask you if you've heard from Ethan," Danny said quickly as they tried to keep up with me.
"No and I don't want to," I growled.
Tyler laughed. I stopped outside the math classroom.
"Look, I know you're upset but -"
"No! There's no 'but'." I walked inside the classroom "Oh and tell Ethan to stop making you guys do his dirty works for him."
I walked straight to my seat, next to Rita.
"Hey," she smiled.
"Hi," I tried to smile back, it came out like a frown.
"Are you okay?"
"I just wish it didn't hurt so bad." I whispered as the teacher walked in.
I felt like I could always be honest with Rita, like she wouldn't judge me. She was very good at listening and she truly cared for other people. Unlike some people I knew.
I was very surprised to see Ethan in gym, he never went to gym.
"What is he doing here?" Cheryl whispered to me.
