I just stared in his eyes. Yes, they were dull before but the way they held my gaze was something I wanted to last forever.
"Jace," but he cut me off.
"I like you, Emma," he said, smiling. "How long did we know each other? For a week? Two weeks? I don't know. But I know what my heart is saying."
Those words felt so unreal. Should I tell him my feelings now? I think I should.
"Jace," but he cut me off again.
"I like you, Emma. But we can't be together."
I thought this moment was leading to happily ever after. But no, I was still far from that point.
"What are you saying?" I asked, confused. I was just about to confess but saying that made me think twice now. I knew that we'd known each other for less than a month, but that didn't mean we couldn't like each other yet. Love or admiration comes unexpectedly. "I like-"
"Don't even continue, Emma. You're a great girl," he said, the dullness in his eyes was back again. "but you can't like me back. I'm blind, can't you see?"
I shook my head. He's unbelievable for saying those things. "And so what if you're blind? That doesn't mean no one can like you," I said, feeling all frustrated now.
He finally stood up. "I'm sorry. Alexa, can we go home now?" he called out his sister. She didn't even notice that we weren't in good terms at the moment. Before walking away, he said, "I'm sorry for saying those things. But really, you just can't."
