The Golden Dragon Rider

Chloe didn't say anything when they landed, nor did she say anything when she stood in the living room of her destroyed house. No words could describe what she was feeling. Vivi, having sensed that something was wrong with her rider, said nothing. Eve, who was in as much shock as her friend, did the same thing as her when she came to her own house, stood quietly and tried to process everything she was seeing. Their dragons were just as stressed as them and kept looking around with confusion. Vivi went to the stable where she previously lived with Aeron and began shuffling around, as if she had never seen it before. 

The first thing Chloe did after coming to her house was look for her mother, but just like Eve she did not find her. Her first thoughts after the initial shock was about Emma and how they were going to help her. Walking to the stable she found Vivi and they flew to Eve's house, which was one of the most demolished buildings in their neighbourhood.

Eve was in her garden, or what was left of it. Snowflake was standing next to her and probably trying to convince Eve to leave.

Looks like they're having a debate.

Possibly.

What should we do?

I don't know, I want to find my mum and somebody who can help my sister.

Good luck with that.

"Hey Eve," Chloe said landing next to her best friend.

"Hey," Eve said looking down.

"Did you find anyone?" Chloe asked her.

"No," Eve answered looking up, it seemed as if she was about to say something else but then she frowned and focused on something behind Chloe, "What, the?" She began to say and as Chloe was turning around Eve darted forward and disappeared through a gap in her fence. At first Chloe was confused but quickly caught on and began chasing her.

Squeezing through the gap Chloe turned left and saw Eve going around the corner. She wasn't very active but she began sprinting, trying to catch up to her. This took her through the twisting streets of the town and she almost lost Eve several times in the pursuit but when they came to a park Chloe got close enough to see why Eve was running. She was chasing someone.

Using the last of her energy, Chloe put on a burst of speed and caught up to her friend. However Eve, who was much faster, shot forwards and tackled the boy.

"Hey! What are you doing?" He yelled as Eve held him to the ground.

"What the hell?" Chloe asked, catching up and doubling over wheezing.

"You were spying on us through a gap in my fence." Eve said angrily.

"Your fence? Do you live there?"

"Yes, now tell me what you were doing." She said impatiently.

"You said it a minute ago, I was spying on you through a gap in the fence,"

"Why though?" Chloe asked standing up and walking over to them.

"I would tell you if you let me go." He said.

Eve loosened her grip but did not free him completely.

"Shame," He said smirking.

"Its going to be an even bigger shame after you get beaten by a girl now tell me this, do you know what happened here?" Eve asked.

"Yes," He said with a mysterious look.

"Can you tell us?" Chloe asked eagerly.

"Yes I can,"

"Go ahead,"

"Well literally half an hour before you, came a group of dragon riders who attacked and burnt everything in sight. Most of the people fled but a lot also died." 

"Do you know where the people went?" Eve asked.

"I saw which direction they flew," 

"Can you lead us there?"

"Probably,"

Eve stood up and stood next to Chloe letting the boy get to his feet.

"They went for the mountains," He said, "Those who had dragons, others just ran. I can show you how to get there if you want. Who are you looking for?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Eve asked with an eye roll, "Our families,"

"And a healer," Chloe added.

"A healer?" he raised an eyebrow.

"My sister's dragon is injured in the forest, we need someone to help him." She explained.

"My dad's a healer, he can help you if we can find him." He said.

Just then Snowflake and Vivi landed next to them and roared at the boy, shielding their riders.

"Oh boy," Chloe muttered.

Landing on a small ledge carved out of the mountain Chloe jumped off and watched Eve do the same. The boy, whom they found out was called Sam, rode with her and they both got off Snowflake's back who growled in return. She did not want to have the boy riding her but it was better than Vivi who asked Chloe if she could burn him alive every time he came near.

Chloe sat down in the corner of the small cave and watched the sun shine through the trees. Her thoughts drifted to Emma, who was probably in that very forest right now sitting next to a dying Aeron. Vivi came over and lay down next to her. Chloe could tell that her dragon was tired and confused.

Do you think that the person who kidnapped you did this? She asked her.

Definitely, I saw his dragon.

They were after us?

I guess he though that we would be home by now, or he wanted to us to be alone and vulnerable.

Well he succeeded.
