Chapter Six

Zack's P.O.V.

I followed her all the way to the end of the street. I didn't see her. Right or left? I couldn't decide which way to go, I just knew that she was getting farther away from me as I stood still. I made a split decision and turned left. I figured that if she was staging a rebellion against something, she wouldn't want to go the 'right way'. So I walked looking down the alleys and streets.

I was right. After a few minutes I had caught up to her and was back on her trail. She looked around, but didn't see me. She ducked onto a trail leading through the woods. I took a deep breath before following the trail. What was I doing? Why was I following this girl? I didn't even know who she was. I looked around. She was nowhere to be found. I sighed. I turned around and started heading home.

As I was walking, I realized that this was a bad part of town. There were dark alleys, boarded up windows, and broken glass everywhere. I looked at the empty beer cans on the ground, and the broken vodka bottle that was in the middle of all the chaos.

"Hey pretty boy," A man said in a gruff and slurred voice from behind me. He was definitely drunk. I spun around to face him and took a few steps back.

"Um hey...," I said, still backing away quickly.

"Where do you think you're going?" he said tripping over his own feet. I backed away quicker.

"Nice shoes," Another man said from behind me.

"Nice jacket too," Another man said, younger sounding than the rest. There were three now and I was trapped. I looked around and my chance of getting out was slim to none. One came towards me.

"Hahahaha," he laughed. He grabbed me by my wrists and shoved my back into the wall.

I stayed quiet swallowing the pain. They all laughed anyway. They got closer and I thought about going back to my old self, but instead decided to take it. I closed my eyes and waited for the punches to come. They never did.

I opened my eyes to discover that I was set down on a dumpster lid and someone was fighting off the guys. It was, a girl? Woah. She had already knocked out two of the guys and was on the third. She blocked his punches. Then went in for her own. I pulled out my phone camera and started to record her with the flash off.

It was dark, and I didn't want to distract her with a light, but the street light on the corner provided staggered light across the scene. It seemed like it was straight out of a movie.

She punched twice holding her head down far enough to block her throat from access, each time she punched she breathed out so the wind wouldn't be knocked out of her, kept him at a good distance in case she needed to kick. She was amazing. This was the kind of stuff I learned back then. The guy was down for the count. Then, the girl ran away with incredible speed kicking off of a wall to change direction. Who the heck was she?

I decided to take the video home before I watched it so I didn't get jumped again. Every and any time something was threatening, I thought about going back, breaking my promise, going back to the me with the ice wall around my heart, but I didn't want to go back.

I took every step with caution and stayed under street lights as much as possible. That was a bad part of town. What was Skye doing out here? She looked weak and frail, she would be killed or worse in less than a minute. Where did she go anyway?

I walked around the same way that I came, and then was close enough to my house that I didn't have to look over my shoulder anymore. I walked up the steps to my house and went up to my room. I looked out the window once again, and saw that Skye was in a bright pink T-shirt and blue jeans.

She was sitting there studying, doing exactly what she had she would be. So, if she didn't leave who did? Or, am I being played, by the goody goody? Nah, that wasn't possible.

I looked down at the clock, it was one in the morning. I sighed. I accidentally kicked the chair in my room and it bashed against the wall. "Shoot," I thought to myself. I suddenly heard a crash from across the way. Skye had been frightened and knocked over her chair. Skye looked up at me and mouthed the word 'sorry'. I nodded my head to assured her it was fine and tossed my jacket onto the coat rack. I walked over and laid down in my bed. I ran my hand through my hair and turned the light out. I would have to look at the video tomorrow.

"Great, one day back and already have a mystery to solve," my brain mocked.

"Why must you always be so cruel?" I asked myself. No answer. Thankfully, I could sleep in peace now. I rolled over onto my side and tried to clear my mind, but I kept thinking about the video and the girl.

Obviously I wasn't going to get any sleep without looking at the video. I got up and walked over to my desk and turned on the light. I pulled out my laptop and plugged my phone into it. The video loaded and started to play. I watched carefully as she changed moved and played out her attack. I couldn't get any real shot of her until the end. I got one shot where her hair and one eye were shown. Her hair was long, dark, and curly. Also, her eyes were blue, almost icey. She had on a black hoodie. I couldn't remember seeing anything as easy as that since this morning.

I thought back to when I saw Skye this morning. She had eyes that you could get lost in. The same color, but the feel wasn't the same. In the photo, there was nothing to be drawn to. There was definitely an emotion there, but I didn't know what. The line of view was too blocked. Although, this morning, when I looked into Skye's eyes, I was lost, and there was a feeling of hope and security that made me feel safe.

The description matched, but there was no way it was her. Skye was knocked over by walking into me. She wasn't skilled enough. Also, the emotion was just...too different. I thought about it for a while. I paced around the room. I hadn't known of anyone else that met that description, so I decided to look into it more tomorrow.

I layed my head down on my pillow. As soon as i closed my eyes, I had a weird thought. I never had a thought about it before that moment, but for some reason, that night, I had a thought of me and Andy going to prom together. Back when I liked her, I thought about us dating, kissing, stuff like that, but never once prom. And never after I got over her. What a weird thing to think about since we were just friends now.

"Not according to her," I thought. I sighed. That was another thing I had to deal with. Thank goodness it was winter break. After that thought, I finally drifted off into a deep sleep.
