Chapter Twenty Three

Skye's P.O.V.

We both started eating and it was okay, but the spark flickered as he checked out a waitress. He checked his watch and the flame died. I was as if he didn't want to be there at all. My phone buzzed and I looked down at it.

Zack: Thinking of you.

I sighed and took another bite of food. Chase whistled at a girl passing and I felt betrayed. That did it. I stood up and walked away. He didn't run after me like he used to do after we fought, which was rare. My phone buzzed again.

Dorthy >.<: Where you going?

Me: Delete my number and don't call me again

I deleted his contact and walked home. I climbed through my window and changed into my pj's. My phone buzzed and I groaned.

Zack: Good Night

I didn't respond, I just threw my phone on my bed and got in the shower. I let the hot water flow through my hair and cascade down my back. After the water ran cold, I got out and brushed my teeth. I wrapped my towel around myself and flopped back on my bed. I rubbed my eyes and sat up looking at the picture on my bedside table. The one of my mom. I sighed.

"I don't know what to do mom. I got dumped by Chase, started crushing on Zack and then went back to Chase, then back to Zack. I don't like Chase, but I did up until a few minutes ago. Do I tell Zack that I cheated, does it even count as cheating? Are me and Zack together? Why did you leave us?" I asked not realizing the last question until after I said it.

I sighed and brushed and dried my hair putting it up in a bun. Then I put on some clothes and laid down. I thought about Zack, and Chase, and I chose Zack, but he wouldn't want a girl who just went out with her ex after telling her dad that they could be a real thing. I sighed again.

I rolled over on my side and closed my eyes. Zack came to mind. I opened my eyes and shook my head. I closed them again and Chase appeared. I sat up and walked downstairs getting a glass of water. My dad was asleep on the couch so I tried to be as quiet as possible. I splashed my face and drank some water.

"What's got you up hun?" my dad asked groggily.

"Why did mom leave?" I asked. The words had come out of my mouth before I had the chance to think. I was just as shocked as my dad.

"Well, I'm not sure," he said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"She just left one day. I had theories, like she fell out of love with me, or in love with someone else, but I never really knew why," he said. I nodded.

"Dad. I lied to you," I blurted out.

"About what?" he asked. I sighed.

"I had a boyfriend before Zack. His name was Chase," I started. He nodded.

"I figured. I knew that you would start to like guys, I just wanted to protect you a little longer," he said.

"I love you dad," I said and he brought me in for a hug.

"One question. You didn't... you know," he said.

"No dad, we didn't," I said. He sighed in relief.

"Good night dad," I said walking back upstairs. I laid back down and fell asleep.
