Chapter Nine
Skye's P.O.V.
Chase came out of the studio door only about five minutes after I got there. That was a close call. Every time my dad wanted to have dinner, it was late and it wasn't like I could say no. He was always either on a business trip or at the office. Ever since mom left, he was a hot mess. He threw himself into work so that he wouldn't start drinking again. I always felt bad for him. He took it harder than I did. Both of us were pretty upset, but he was totally broken.
I had no time to be as upset or broken as him because I started taking care of the family. My mom usually cooked, cleaned, and she had a job as a fashion model. I assumed all of her duties accept her job. I started applying to a lot of places, but I only worked summer jobs. He focused more on me and my school work than anything else for awhile. He expected me to be little Ms.Perfect, and I finally snapped one day. I went out to a party, got drunk, and that was how I met Chase. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked back at Chase.
As soon as he closed the door to the studio, he turned around to face me and smiled. He leaned in and kissed me. My lips moved in sync with his. He won dominance a long time ago. After we broke apart for air, he looked me in the eye and smiled again. I smiled back.
"Can I take you to dinner tonight?" he asked. He has his begging eyes on, and I almost said yes. My smile dropped and he had his disappointed face on as he knew my answer already.
"You know that I can't. If someone sees us everything I've worked for will be gone. My dad would never approve," I said. He nodded and started thinking. I could tell by his expression that it wasn't good. He sat me down on the bench next to us and he sat too. He sighed and took hold of my hand .
"Babe, I love you, but I can't be your secret anymore. I'm tired of sneaking around, only seeing you at night, never getting to take you out or walk you home. I can't even kiss you at school. I need you to make a choice. Me, or your Ms.Perfect image," he said.
I was shocked. He had never told me anything like that before. He used to say that it was an adventure, that he was ok with it, that he liked being the guy I kept secret because that meant no judgement, just me and him, and our feelings. It was different then. He looked me in the eye, hope obviously glistening over his beautiful orbs. A tear pricked at my eyes and he dropped my hands. I tried to speak, but my throat was so dry that there was no point. He stood up and faced me. He held out a hand and laughed.
"I should've known it was gonna end this way huh?" he asked. I involuntarily reached out my hand and let him help me up. I felt the tears falling down my cheeks slowly, but still couldn't move or speak.
"There is one thing I want to do before we break it off," he said. I was finally able to comprehend what was happening and nodded. He leaned in really close. He grabbed my hands again, let our foreheads touch, and then kissed me. I wasn't expecting it, but he did. It was the best kiss we had ever shared besides our first. It was long, soft, and I could tell that it was my goodbye kiss. He finally broke away and let his hands linger on mine.
"The kiss is always better when you realize it's your last isn't it?" he asked. A small smile appeared on his lips. It spread to me even though I was just as hurt as he was. I couldn't stop the words words from coming out.
"Or you're trying to show me what I'm missing," I said blankly. He let out a small chuckle. There was nothing else that he said, he just dropped my hands and walked away with a hurt look.
"Turn around, turn around, turn around," I thought to myself, but he never did. He didn't turn around, look me in the eyes, he didn't notice me at all. It took all the power I had left not to race after him when he turned that corner. I remembered that he had told me I was all he had, and that broke my heart, but what other option was there? I stood there frozen for another minute, and then started walking home.
I counted the number of steps I took, trying to keep my mind off of the events that just took place. 45, 46, 47, 48....... The tears started spilling like an ocean as I realized that he was never coming back. I got to my ladder and climbed up. I was officially heartbroken, but couldn't feel it due to my state of shock. Great...just great. Not only that, but I couldn't tell anyone because he was a secret all along.
