Chapter Eight
Skye's P.O.V.
*Flash Back*
I looked around to make sure that no one was watching. I turned back to the street and bumped into something. I backed away and looked up. It was man. He began to chuckle and come closer. I backed away as far as I could, but I was backed against a wall. He got really close and grabbed my arm. As soon as he did, Chase jumped out from around the corner.
Chase grabbed the guy and threw him across the alley. He looked me over to see if I was hurt. Then, after he knew that I was fine, he looked me over again. I felt a deep blush on my face.
"What are you doing wearing something like this around pigs like this?" he asked pointing over at the guy knocked out on the wall.
I looked down. I was just wearing a Tshirt and some skinny jeans. It's what I always wore. I looked back up at him confused.
"I always wear stuff like this. You don't like it?" I asked confused.
He moved closed pressing himself against me in a hug. Then he pulled back and sighed.
"I love it, but so do these creeps. If you're going to wear clothes like that, put on a hoodie ok?" he asked. I nodded.
"Babe, I'm not kidding. You are all I have since my parents left, I need you to know how to defend yourself. Follow me," he demanded, gently grabbing my hand and pulling me through the woods and too the studio. I was worried for a moment, but then Chase turned to look at me and I felt safe.
"Ok, so let's start with the basics. Number one, don't start the fight. Ever. Number two, if you find yourself in a fight worthy situation, keep your guard up. You can't fight when you can't breath, so keep your throat blocked. You can't fight when you can't see, keep your eyes and temples guarded. Number three, always breathe out when punching so you don't lose your breath. Number four, kicks can easily be caught, but that option shouldn't be ruled out, so only do that in a dangerous situation," he said. I nodded. I was good at retaining information, so I was pretty sure I could do it. The only questionable part was my physical strength.
"Ok, now I'm going to show you a few fighting stances," he said. I nodded. Then, we walked over to the punching bag.
"When punching, you need to be closer, when kicking, be farther out. Got it?" he asked. I nodded again. Then he got into fighting stance making his muscles show. Then he showed me the one for kicking.
Just like I saw him do, I spread my legs apart, one foot slightly in front of the other. I turned my shoulders to match my feet. I had my thumbs on the outside, and then looked up at him.
"Great. Now I'm going to teach you how to punch. But to start, I need to know what you can do. Show me your best punch," he said pointing to the punching bag. I remembered trying this once in gym, so I wasn't totally inexperienced.
I got into position and looked at the bag. I threw my hardest punch breathing out as I did. I watched the bag fly back at least three inches and I smiled in triumph. I relaxed my stance and looked at Chase.
"Nice, for your first try. Now watch me," he said. I nodded and stepped back. I watched as he got into punching stance. He threw a hard right hand punch and followed through pulling that arm all the way back and swiftly throwing the second punishing blow with his left hand. I took mental notes of all of his movements.
"Now you go. He said moving back. I walked up and looked at the bag again.
I got into stance and did what I saw him do. I punched with my right hand, the bag flew back a few inches, then I delivered the second punch and the bag flew back at least six inches that time. I relaxed and looked up.
"You're a quick learner," he said. He sounded a bit more shocked than impressed, which made me smile. Then I stepped back. He walked up and got into stance. He did what we practiced, but then started doing stuff that I had never seen before. He delivered a kick, where on a human my size, would have landed on their stomach, and then ducked as if someone were coming at him. Then he stepped back.
"Now that I have shown you what to do, put it all together like I did," he said.
I nodded and stepped up to the bag. I did what he did delivering punches, kicks, and dodging imaginary attacks. He nodded in approval.
"Now practice on me," he said. I shook my head.
"No way. I'll get demolished," I stated.
"I'll go easy on you," he said. I sighed, but came forward anyway.
I went with a defence stance as he came at me with the first punch. I blocked it and moved to the side. He came at me again and I blocked. Then I came at him with a double punch and he blocked. He threw a punch and I ducked knocking out his feet but he caught balance quickly.
I threw a kick to the stomach and he caught it. I gasped and he manipulated the hold on my foot to knock me to the ground and straddle me with a punch ready to knock my lights out. I blocked and he moved my hands showing that he was done fighting. I sighed and panted being too tired to move.
"You alright cutie?" he asked. I nodded.
"Never been better," I said.
"Good, now let's move on from the warm ups," he exclaimed.
"What?!?!" I screeched. He burst out laughing.
"Just kidding. But we do need to work on some things," he said. I sighed. He was still on top of me and I remembered a trick my dad taught me when I was little. I positioned my foot in the right place and then spun the situation around so that I was on top. He had a shocked expression.
Before he could say anything, I leaned down and kissed him. He picked me up and set me on his lap as he sat up. We made out for a few minutes before he broke away.
"That's definitely not something we need to work on," He said smiling.
"That's good, but maybe I should practice just in case," I said kissing him again. When we finally broke apart, he stood me up and caught his breathe.
"Break's over. Now we work on punch speed. Throw a punch," he said. So I did.
"Faster. If you go too slow, they could gain the advantage" I went faster.
"Harder! You're protecting yourself!" I punched harder.
"Faster harder, faster harder!" he demanded. I went as fast and as hard as I could. He nodded telling me I could stop. I panted again.
"Great. That's enough for today, but next time it's gonna get harder," he said. I nodded.
I jumped up and he caught me. I kissed him again. He kissed back.
"The more practice, the better I get," he said.
"For sure," I said laughing. He walked me half way home, and then let me go back by myself because no one could see us together or they would freak.
But from that day on, we practiced every day until I became a pretty good fighter. Then it stopped being everyday and was just weekly
*End of Flashback*
That was six months ago. He didn't worry about me getting hurt as much then, but we still had practice sessions every week. I worried about him getting hurt in this stupid club he was in, but he didn't have anywhere else to go. His dad made him join early this year. I've gotten a lot more practice and I'm a lot better at fighting, but only when I'm on guard. I smiled at the memory of Chase teaching me to fight as I walked up to the studio door and waited for Chase.
