The longer we walked, the more homesick I got. I actually wanted my old life back. Well maybe only some parts. Like my siblings and my school. I wanted my parents back as well but I just didn't want their attitudes.
So far nothing too interesting had happened. Just walking around the silent and broken city. No one had appeared and I saw no animals.
Zayjay and D'Anna stayed quiet and so did Oliver.
I asked questions from time to time but they were hardly answered. I finally got the message that no one was in the mood for talking so I shut my mouth and continued walking. We soon found a building that looked something like a store and my hopes went up. None of us had money-that I knew of-and since the city was basically abandoned, I don't think that we'd have to pay for anything.
I pointed it out to the group and we all agreed that we should check it out.
We entered the store to find it complete destroyed. Shocker, I know.
Food and glass were everywhere along with some blood splatters.
There was no one that we could see yet. Maybe there was someone in here. If I was alone during all of this, I would defiantly hide in a big store like this. I would have food, water and medicine and if someone dangerous came in here, there was so many places to hide and flee.I was about to tell everyone that we should maybe just camp here but they all were already splitting up.
I sighed.
Not this again.
Zayjay and her sister went down to one aisle and Oliver was making his way over to the back of the store. I of course followed Oliver.
I still didn't have 100 percent trust with those girls.Oliver was moving slowly, going up and down each aisle as he went, not making a single sound.
He was like a ninja of some sort.I, on the other hand, kept bumping and crashing into things. I fell and tripped over nearly everything. Oliver would just stare at me with amusement. I would just look down at the floor and keep walking, while he held back his laughs.
At least someone was having fun.
To my relief, we finally made it to the back of the store.
Before the war and everything, my mother would take me to this store often. Even though the drives were long, we would still come here. The back of the store had all of the dry foods and snacks so I knew this part of the store like the back of my hand.
Me and Oliver went down aisle after aisle, grabbing different kinds of food. Oliver must have thought that it would be childish to only get junk food so he did get crackers and granola bars and all the things in that category.
I didn't think so. I got nearly every bag of chips I saw. I didn't care what anyone though! I want my food good! I got a few of my favorite candy bars too. We put our food into my backpack and Oliver carried it.I had to take my knife out of the backpack though. Oliver didn't want blood on the food or for it to cut open any of the foods packaging.
I slid the knife in the belt of my jeans and we walked over to the medicine part of the store. We got three different first-aid kits and at least 11 different boxes of different bandaids. We also got pain killers and other drugs that Oliver knew that I didn't.
"We could drug the terrorist with these." He told me, holding a white bottle out to me. I didn't know what it was.
"It a drug that makes you really tired and drowsy and you eventually fall asleep."
I tilted my head. "Oliver I think that drugging them is a wonderful idea and all but how would we do it exactly?"
He shrugged and opened the bottle. He slid two pills out into his hand.
The pills were very little and they were a blue color. He gazed at them for a while. "I bet if we were taken by them or kidnapped, we would have a chance with it."I thought that it was a good idea but I still had my doubts.
He put the pills back into the bottle and put it in his back pocket. Oliver scanned the aisle and then a sudden smile spread across his face.
He ran back over to me. "What if we just drugged them with all sorts of random things?"I knitted my eyebrows together. "Are you on drugs?"
He laughed. "Just hear me out." He clapped his hands together."If we find a way to get the sleeping pills into their system, then we can get any drug in them. If we get a ton of different pills in them, then there's no way that'll keep 'em alive!"
"Who's 'they'?"
I whipped around to see Zayjay and D'Anna standing at the end of the aisle. They now had all different kinds of knives on them. They now each had a backpack, which seemed full of stuff. Knives were hanging from the zippers. There was knives in their hands too. I could even see smaller knives in their pockets!
"I see that you ladies have been to the kitchen aisle!" Oliver joked.
Neither of them moved a muscle.
"Olive was talking about the terrorists." I informed flatly.
The two sisters glanced at each other before then came over to us.
"So you think that drugging them is the way out of this?" D'Anna said, taking a pill bottle off the shelf.Oliver looked down at the floor and pulled the pill bottle he had out of his pocket and stared at it. "It was just an idea." He mumbled.
"Yeah. A bad one." She said back to him, reading the bottle she had.
She put the bottle back and began waking away.Zayjay stayed with us. "It's not that bad of a plan but I don't see how we could get the pills to them."
Oliver put his bottle back on the shelf. "Yeah I guess so." He seemed disappointed.
I felt a little bad for him but I didn't really know how to comfort him. I tried anyways and patted the backpack. "It's alright Oliver." Is all I could think of to say.
He shrugged me off.
He gave me the backpack. "Put whatever else you need it in."
I nodded my head.
He followed Zayjay out of the aisle. I stayed for a second.I found took a box of larger bandages of the shelf and opened it. I took a bandage out and slowly wrapped it around my shoulder.
I unwrapped the bloody cloth I had on my arm to put a new one on. I looked at my cut. No changes could be found.
I looked around the aisle for maybe a cream I could put on it. I spotted one and applied it on my cut. The cream was cold and it felt good against my skin. I took more boxes of it and put them in my backpack. I wrapped up my arm with the new bandages.I took more boxes of the bandages and stuffed them into my backpack.
Earlier I pulled out most of my school stuff but now I needed to get rid of the rest of it.
I threw the last of my school papers over my shoulder. I wouldn't need them anyways.Holding my backpack with my good shoulder, I jogged over to the front of the store.
Zayjay and D'Anna were going through all of the cash resisters. Oliver wasn't around. The girls were stuffing money into their backpacks.
I honestly didn't know how to feel about this.
Something about it just seemed plain wrong. Plus what would we need money for? The city was abandoned.I chose to just let them do what they wanted and sat back and watched.
Oliver came back. He had a backpack of his own. It didn't seem so filled up though. Maybe he was saving room for other things while we traveled. When he came over and stood beside beside me, he was eating a box of crackers.
Not the best snack in my opinion, but I'm not one to judge.
When the girls were done with their money-hunt, we headed out of the store and continued on our way.
