"Photographers Daughter"
"What!?" Maddy yelled in disbelief, she looked back at Angeline's phone read Roxbury's name over again. She looked between the phone and Angeline whose field of vision focused towards the direction Roxbury had walked off too.
Angeline knew that one day she wanted to know about that man that one day created her, but she wasn't expecting to meet him at her friends photo shoot and him be the famous Roxbury Porter, as if a switched kicked in all the childhood memories without her dad being in her life for recitals, school plays, sports games. She hated her unknown father for that, seeing all her friends with their fathers and her without one, the father daughter dance in high school.... Anger built inside her and she stood up from the comfy leather chair at the coffee shop.
She looked at both her friends who both waited for her to responded or blink for that matter. "I'm just as shocked as you both, but now is not the time to talk about this. He obviously doesn't know who I am and I'd like to keep it that way for now." Angeline managed to gain control of the situation. She only hoped Maddy would not say a word about it. Maddy looked at her friend and knew not to press the subject on her. Angeline felt tired and wasn't up for a day of sightseeing. She decided she wanted to head back to the hotel. "Listen I'm not up for going shopping, I'm going to head back and get some rest." Both girls looked at Angeline with disappointment on written over their face. Angeline felt the guilt in her stomach for wanting to ditch on them, but the overwhelming feeling of seeing her father, shaking his hand for the first time. It was all too much, she wanted to talk to her mother, hear her voice.
"It's fine Angie, well can head back to the hotel-"
"No!" Angeline stopped her mid-sentence. "I need time to myself, I mean if I'm going to see him tomorrow then, I need to prepare myself for that." Maddy nodded and walked over and pulled her friend into her embrace. "Okay Ang, I see this is big for you and I'm sorry you had to find out this way." Maddy whispered into her ear and received a giggle in return. Angeline laughed at the statement, she looked over at Sabrina who stood quite, Sabrina had no idea what was going on only that Angeline had meet her father whom she's never spoke of. Angeline hugged Sabrina too giving her that comfort of home and safety which reminded her of Carson, oh how she missed him. "I'm here for you, Love." Giving her a kiss on the cheek, Sabrina took hold of Maddy's hand. "Let's head out darling?" As the girls walked off Angeline took to the curb to haul a cab. Maybe she wasn't doing the right hand signal because the yellow cabs just drove right by her. She huffed when the third cab passed by.
"It's all in the posture, see?" Angeline stiffened when Roxbury stood next to her and just like that the yellow cab appeared before him. She tried to get a word out, but the air caught in her throat. She stood staring at the cab until the driver yelled. "You two getting in or what!?"
"Where you headed?" Roxbury in a soft tone, Angeline hopped into the cab and Roxbury followed. He wasn't sure why he did, but he felt the need to make sure she got to where she was going safe. Angeline's mind went blank she had no idea where she was going. "The Four Seasons" She said. We drove in an awkward silence, until I couldn't anymore.
"Sophia Montgomery."
Roxbury felt like the wind was knocked out of him, hearing her name after so many years.... his sweet Sophia. He looked back at Angeline and studied her, the nose the lips the eyes except Sophia's was a beautiful shade of blue, these ones were green like his mothers and like his.
Angeline looked out the window until she saw the familiar building of her hotel. He hadn't said a word. Angeline just assumed he forgot her mother entirely, so she didn't bother to look back she got out the cab and made her way into the hotel. She checked her pocket for her room key where she had put it earlier and it wasn't there. She walked to the front desk and got an assistant to open it with a spare. Once inside Angeline kicked off her shoes and sat down on her bed. 'How couldn't he know I was her daughter?' Angeline thought, she laid back on her bed letting the softness comfort her all she wanted was to be home... Her father was no longer a thought in her mind; he was now a real and tangible person. Angeline blinked the tears that blurred her vision.
