"The Sun Rises in the East"
Chapter 26
Madelyn knew she had to act quick and not give Roxbury Porter the opportunity to look for another replacement model. She was now an expert at booking a cross-country flight in a hurry, and she almost cried when her two besties offered to cover her plane ticket. She booked a flight for the very same evening that would arrive in New York in the early hours of the next morning.
Madelyn packed lightly; a few outfits and her make-up bag. Angeline and Sabrina decided to bring with them the suitcases they had travelled with from Spain. They didn't know how long they would be staying on the East Coast, but they felt it was better to be ready to fly back home directly from New York.
Of course Angeline's mom had offered to take the three girls to the airport and they all teared up a bit as they hugged in front of the screening line.
"Baby, let me know if you fly back here before going back to Spain." She told her daughter.
"Of course I will!" Angeline responded while hugging her mother tighter. Truth is, she didn't know which part of the world she would be more eager to fly to once the New York escapade would come to an end.
"I love you!" Her mom said as she let go of her daughter and quickly hugged Sabrina and Madelyn.
"Sabrina, it was a pleasure meeting you! Take good care of my little girl if I don't see you again."
"Si Senora." Sabrina responded playfully.
Angeline's mom turned to Madelyn and gave her a genuine smile.
"I know you've worked so hard for that opportunity!" She told her. "And I know you will be successful!" She added as she gently pinched her cheek.
"Thank you for all your help, Miss Montgomery! You've been a wonderful second Mom to me!" Madelyn said as she felt her eyes get wet.
Madelyn, struck by disaster at an early age when her mom passed away a week after her 12th birthday, had always turned to Angeline's mom for the motherly guidance she had missed during her teen years. Her dad was drunk most of the day, partly as a way to cope with losing his wife, so the Montgomery household had always been a safe shelter for little Maddie.
As the last call came over the airport speakers for their flight, the three girls rushed to their boarding gate and were almost the last ones to enter the plane.
They had exchanged boarding passes randomly so none of the girls had paid attention to where they would be seating for the 6 hour flight, but as they found their seats, it was obvious to Angeline that her two friends couldn't hide the excitement of realizing they would be sitting next to each other.
Sabrina, who wanted to see the descent onto New Jersey upon landing, quickly picked the window seat and Madelyn settled for the aisle seat to her left. In this smaller aircraft, Angeline was forced to sit across the aisle, leaving her two best friends alone. She experienced an ounce of jealousy, but understood the two lovebirds wouldn't be seeing each other much longer once school started again for Sabrina and herself.
Of the three, Sabrina was clearly the one most afraid to fly, so she quickly took hold of Madelyn's hand as the plane gained speed on the runway; unless this was just an excuse for physical contact. Angeline adjusted her seatbelt and glanced at her friends and smiled. She had never felt the need to experience with another girl, but somehow she couldn't deny being aroused by the couple to her right.
Madelyn and Sabrina hooking up was such an unlikely scenario that she had been a little shocked at first to find out about it, but for some reason she knew just as well as them two that this was just a fling, a temporary romance that would quickly die and turn into a strong friendship.
