Chapter twenty one

Lover gave me away

            It was time. I was in my wedding dress and standing in front of the priest with Ling by my side. The dress of pure white was of pure beauty to the invited, but of pure guilt to me.

"Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to witness this marvelous historical ceremony." The priest said. He kept saying things that I didn't hear, all I can think of was Envy and the message he left for me at the cliff. The priest kept on talking until I heard him call me by my name.

"Beauty..."

I didn't hear him the first time.

"Beauty..."

Not even the second time; I was drowning in my thoughts.

"Ugly..."

The priest whispered to me. I was the only one who heard him.

Ugly? Only one person calls me that. Could it be?

"Do you, Beauty, take, Ling Yaw to be your husband through better or worse and be the princess by his side?" the priest asked.

"Y...yes... I do"

"And do you, Ling yaw take Beauty to be your wife through better or worse and be the prince by her side?"

"I do."

"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may ... 'kiss' the bride."

What? It can't be?! Was it really true?

Ling kissed me and I was now his wife and the new princess of Xing.

The party was big and almost everyone attended. It was a big feast. I was sitting next to Ling when the priest came closer and asked for a dance.

"Excuse me your highness; I was wondering if I could have a dance with your lovely bride?" the priest said "It will be the 'last dance'"

"Don't steal her heart though." Ling joked.

"Don't worry your highness." The priest winked at Ling.

I took the priests hand and we danced. I looked at the priest wondering if I can prove myself right.

"Would you like to go outside for some fresh air?" the priest said.

"Y... Yes I would love that."

I accompanied the priest outside the ball room into the back yard where nothing but small lights and the sound of night and small waterfalls filled the air.

"Pretty amazing isn't it princess?" he said to me "All of this, just for you."

"You can cut off the act Envy, I know it's you."

He looked at me with a smirk and I watched him turn into his original form again.

"How's it going babe?" he said

"Hell, thank for asking."

"Well I guess we both are on the same page."

"Why did you come here?"I asked him

"Well I couldn't miss this very important day can I? I was wondering why I didn't get an invitation." He joked

"How could you do this? You were the one that married me and Ling. You were disguised as the priest. Why did you do that?"

"I wanted to be close to you on your wedding."

"Why do you keep torturing me like this?" I said almost about to cry and with pain in my voice.

"I'm actually here to ask you something."

Ask me something? What could it be?

"Its ... kind of stupid to ask it, and a bit human like." He said

"What is it?"

"Grrrr... I can't believe I have to act like a human... but..."

"What is it? Spit it out already..."

"Beauty..."

He dropped to the floor on one knee and raised a ring.

"Will you... marry me?"

"W... What?"I asked shocked and surprise.

"Marry me. Right here right now."

"You're proposing to me on my wedding day?" I asked him "Will you take me away and live with me and our child?"

He looked unease and said

"I can't do that right now. Our baby is meant to be used by my father."

"So you are actually willing to let this monster use your own child?"

"Don't call him that."

"What will happen to our baby?"

"I... I don't know... either it stays with one soul, and continues on as a weak homunculi, or... dies."

"Die?!!!" I yelled at him

"Don't yell you will get someone's attention." He said in a low voice

"No Envy. I can't do this and I won't let you use our baby."

"So... you won't marry me?"

"I... I'm sorry I can't."

"I see." He said with a sad face "I understand... why someone like you would be with a monster like me?"

"Don't say that... I love you."

"Stop saying that. If you love me you would do the impossible for me."

"So would you!"

"Well I guess we both don't love each other at all do we?"

"..."

"I... I'm sorry." he said wiping away the angry face he had on

"Forget it. This is hopeless." I said while crying. "I guess we really aren't meant to be."

"No, it came out of me from anger."

"Face it Envy." I said "The world will never let us be together."

Envy turned me to face him and kissed my lips vigorously.

"I hate you." He said and left me while I watched him disappearing between the trees.
