He watches her as she stands waiting for the train. A suitcase is clutched in her hand and her face is red.

"Goodbye Ben."

Then she boards the train.

He makes a pasta dinner, with portions too big for one but for two. Ben sets down two plates, two cups, and two sets of utensils. He sits down in his chair and looks forward hoping Rey would be the one sitting across from him, with a warm smile on her face. Yeah he sees her but only for a moment before he realizes she's gone.

When it's around time to go to bed he stays up. The latch on the door becomes unlocked and he starts making Rey's favorite tea. Ben sits down on the couch looking at the door.

Rey looks out the window and watches as his face disappears from her view. Her face is red and streaked with tears. But it was for the best. She couldn't hurt him anymore.

Ben walks into his room and looks down at the bed. He sighs laying down on Rey's side, hoping the feel of her was still there. Hoping she was still there. He would do anything.

"Ben! Put me down!"

Rey squealed as he lifted her up and swung her around as if she was a child. He laughed with love in his eyes.

"Ben!"

He dropped her on the bed a laughing mess.

"Ben,"Rey smiled and wrapped her arms around him,"I love you."

"I know."

Ben held Rey in his arms as they sat on the couch covered in blankets.

"So Finn —"

"Finn again?"

"What do you have against Finn? He's my best friend!"

"I know but you seem to like him a lot more than me!"

"Ben I-"

He stormed off to their room.

"Ben I'm sorry," she whispered through the door, "I don't like Finn that way I —"

He opened the door and kissed her, "I should be sorry, I've just been stressed out. I don't want to lose you Rey."

"I don't want to lose you either."

"Rey. Rey?"

"What?" She hissed her voice low.

"I'm sorry."

"I've heard that same shit about a million times Ben!"

"Excuse me? But I wasn't even the one doing anything! You thought something was going on with my best friend!"

"Well how am I supposed to know you're not hooking up!"

"Hooking up? Please Rey I've dealt with Finn hugging you a lot longer than a friend should."

"I-I..."

"See? I wasn't hugging or having PDA with her! She's like a sister!"

"Ben —"

"I just —"

Ben walked out of the room and Rey felt the tears stream down her face.

"I'm sorry too."

"I-I..."

Ben didn't say anything, instead he hugged her and kissed her forehead.

"We will get through this. I promise."

Rey smiled and laid in his arms.

"Ben I can't keep doing this."

"Doing what?"

"Hurting you! I keep hurting you! You don't deserve me! Maybe this isn't working —"

"What are you talking about Rey?"

"Maybe we should see other people."

"Why?"

"We have become so distant and I don't know, I've been hanging with Finn and Poe and they don't get along with your friends. And —"

"Fuck them. Fuck everything. Rey I just want you. Please."

Rey looked away, and Ben wrapped his arm around her.

"I just want you."

"What are you doing?"

"Packing."

"For what?"

"Ben I'm leaving."

"Why Rey? Please I'll do anything!"

"I'm sorry but it's for the best. I need to clear my head and I can't keep doing this."

"Rey, I love you!"

"I love you too, that's why I'm doing this. You don't deserve this, a girl who can't even save herself, I just need time."

"Rey —"

"My train is tomorrow morning."

It's been almost a year and Ben has accepted the fact that she was never coming back. During that time he has had relationships, but none have lasted over a couple of months. They could never replace Rey.

Ben knows she's never coming back yet he always leaves the hall light on, and the door unlocked. Just in case she comes back.
