I was a nervous ball of stress. What if Lin and Vanessa end up hating her? What if she doesn't like them? They have to get along! These are the people I value most in my life and I want them to get along.
Most of my time spent before she got there was doing my homework and really anything to get my mind off of things. I put on some classical music and of course a but of 2cellos to help stop my freak out. Nothing like a little badass cello music to get your mood up. I was dancing around my room crazily while listening to the 2cellos cover or Thunderstruck and I guess I had it on really loud because I didn't hear my door open.
"Wow that's the sexiest dancing I've ever seen," I heard Liz laugh from behind me," but I do very much approve of the music choice."
Of course she would she played the cello. Never mind, I pushed that aside and I ran over to give Liz a hug. We gave each other a nice big hug and a quick peck on the lips. It was still crazy that she's my girlfriend. Actually it's crazy that she became my girlfriend today and Lin already asked to meet her. Having that thought in my mind just made me stress more. I guess Liz could tell I was stressing because she put her arms around me.
"Hey this is gonna go great. Parents love me! Well I mean my parents do, I've never actually dated anyone so I've never done this whole meet the parents thing," I must have tensed because she squeezed me harder and kept talking," but I'm good with people so this is going to go great. Also have you met Lin he is so chill and I'm assuming your foster mother, Vanessa, is as well."
Her words did have a calming affect on me. She is always the sensible one in this relationship. I'm sure we have nothing to worry about. I know they will love her just as much as I do. I heard her chuckling and I looked up at her.
"You are the biggest stressor I know. But you still da best and I enjoy being your girlfriend," She chuckled.
"First off you are a giant dork and secondly we've only been going out for a day," I said looking up at her and laughing.
"Yes but it feels like an eternity when I am with you," she dramatically whispered.
"Yup see you are proving my point, you're a giant dork," I laughed.
Man did I get lucky to have her. She can always make me laugh and smile. I heard an inaudible yell from the living room then stomping footsteps coming towards my door. The footsteps kept getting louder and louder till my door burst open. Without any surprise from me I looked over and saw Lin.
"There better not be anything inappropriate happening here," he dramatically shouted.
"No Lin just talking," I laughed at him.
"Ok well I came in to tell you both that dinner is ready," he exited right after he finished speaking.
I grabbed Liz's hand and lead her out to the dinner table. Which, to my surprise, looked very fancy. I guess they were pulling out all of the stops to try and make a good impression. Well it's really nice that they are trying to make a nice impression. I just hope they all get along. We got to the table and Liz took the spot right next to me that was vacant. The beginning of diner was a bit awkward because we just dished up our dinner and sat there. Though soon the silence was broken by Lin.
"So you're dating my daughter?" Lin stated. In my mind I corrected him to foster daughter because I technically wasn't adopted.
"Yes sir. She's quite the girl," she said as she smiled at me.
"Yes she is," Lin smiled.
Conversation took off from there. We went from topic to topic, the chatter never really stopping. They were all getting along which made me very happy because that's all I really wanted. Somehow we got onto the topic of broadway. Though I'm not surprised because I do live in a house with Lin Manuel Miranda.
"So what is your current favorite thing on Broadway," Lin asked Liz.
"Well it has to be either Hamilton or School of Rock. I loved the movie School of Rock and the musical is just as good, or that's my opinion," she replied.
"Good answer," Lin grinned.
The conversation never really stopped until it had to. Sadly it did have to end though because Liz's mother came to pick her up. She got up to the table and I escorted to the door. We gave each other a goodbye hug and said we would see each other tomorrow. I was watching her leave when I heard an aw come from behind me. When I turned around I saw Lin and Vanessa holding each other looking in my direction with big smiles on their faces.
"I see how much you like her. And if I can say anything I really like her too. You guys are good together," Vanessa said with a smile.
"You guys both really like her?" I asked unsure.
They nodded their heads and I went over and gave them a hug. I was so happy that they all like one another. That was my hope for the night and it came true! I got in bed that night still high on happiness from the day I had. Little did I know soon that would all change.
