"Lin, it's really nothing I promise," I tried to lie.
"It's definitely not nothing! You have bruises and a split lip," he exclaimed as he drove us home.
"Look it was just a little misunderstanding between me and another student," I said.
"You will tell me what happened but I won't force it out of you now. We'll wait till Vanessa gets home tonight then you will explain it to both of us," He stated.
I hung my head, not looking forward to having to explain what happened later. When I do explain I'll probably have to show them the rest of my bruises. The car ride was pretty silent after that, just quiet music playing in the background. I wanted to tell Lin about Liz but he seemed really upset so I decided I would just wait. Honestly why does he even care? No one cares about me, I'm just a burden. They only took me in because they felt pity for me. It's only a matter of time before they send me somewhere else.
Luckily the apartment was close to my school so we didn't sit in awkward silence for too long. As soon as Lin parked the car I hopped out, grabbed my things, and quickly headed for our home. Before I could get away from this situation Lin and I had to brave a silent elevator ride. Finally we got to the apartment and I went straight to my room, trying to avoid the inevitable conversation.
You know a kid really doesn't want to have a conversation when they decide doing their homework is better than talking. All of my homework was finished before Vanessa got home because I desperately didn't want to talk and I didn't want them to see my face. I even got some practice time before I heard Vanessa come home. All I felt was dread, waiting for Lin to call me out showing Vanessa what happened and making me explain. As if he read my mind I heard Lin call me out to the living room. I shuffled my feet, trying to walk as slow as I could, feeling my stomach doing flips.
"Yes," I said as soon as they came into sight. I heard Vanessa gasp when she saw my face.
"Oh my gosh! What happened to you?" Vanessa asked while putting her hands on my head checking my wounds.
"I promise it's nothing important," I tried to tell them.
"I pick you up from school and you have a split lip and bruises. That is for sure not nothing," Lin said.
"Fine if you won't leave me alone I'll tell you what happened. But you guys can't freak out and go over board," I sighed
"Good. Now get to the explaining," Vanessa said.
"Well basically after Lin dropped me off this morning I brought my stuff to class and I was early so I was going to go to the bathroom quick before class started. I almost got to the bathroom when Trent and some of his friend surrounded me. We had a quick conversation, I didn't like it so I tried to leave. When I tried to leave Trent pushed me on the ground and him and his friends attacked me. The hit me and kicked me and then they just decided to leave. So yea, that's the whole story," I explained.
"How dare they think it's ok to attack a girl! Or anyone for that matter! I'm going to principal tomorrow and talking about this," Lin shouted.
"No please," I begged," I just want to forget this and move on."
"Anne if they did this once they will do it again. Bullies don't give up unless you show them it's not ok to keep doing it," Vanessa reasoned.
"I guess your right but I mean my principal won't do anything. There isn't any proof. Nothing will happen," I tried to explain.
"They must have cameras or something. I'm going to go talk to your principal about this tomorrow," Lin stated. There was nothing I could say that would change his mind.
"Ok," I said while looking down.
Looks like Trent will find out I told. All I could think about was all of the horrible punishments that are now going to happen to me. I heard movement and the next thing I know I feel arms wrapped around me. Lin and Vanessa had both gotten up, came over and gave me a hug. These two are amazing hug givers because as soon as they wrapped their arms around me I felt slightly better. One of them had hugged too tight and the pressed into one of my bruises and I gasped.
"What's wrong?" They asked at the same time.
"Well there was something that I didn't show you guys," I said as I lifted my shirt slightly showing them all of my other bruises.
They both gasped and I knew this just set in stone the meeting with my principal tomorrow. I lowered my shirt quickly. Lin and Vanessa were both talking to each other quietly when we all heard a noise. We all turned out heads to see Sebastian in the kitchen trying to indicate that he was hungry. Lin chuckled and went into the kitchen, scooping up Sebastian. He told Sebastian to hold out a little longer so we could have a meal together as a family.
I slipped into my room to get some more practice time before dinner. Though I didn't get as much time as I expected because dinner actually finished fairly quickly. I was called out after about 45 minutes. Our dinner was really simple and just consisted of chicken, rice, and peas. Throughout dinner I just sat there eating, I didn't feel like talking that much. As soon as I was finished I thanked them for dinner and quickly headed to my room. I wasted the rest of the night on the internet, mostly on tumblr. Once it was time to go to sleep I only had one thing on my mind. What's gonna happen to me once we talk to the principal tomorrow?
