Once we left the apartment we got into Vanessa's car, Sebastian got strapped in his car seat and we headed out. I had no idea where we were going because I had never been asked if I wanted to decorate my room by a foster family before. Usually I came in with a room already made, usually very bland, and was told to deal with it. Honestly I was really excited to be able to decorate my own room because that hadn't happened in about 5 years. We pulled up into the Target parking lot then got out and headed inside.
I had no idea what I wanted my color scheme to be or what kind of things I needed or wanted. We first walked over to the bed sheets and stuff where I picked out this beautiful sheet set that was a checkered pattern but with dark purple and light purple. So I guess my color scheme will be purple to match my sheets. Next we went and got some light purple, lilac if you will, paint for my walls and some paining supplies. Finally we picked up a cool little desk for me to do homework on. Not only was it a desk but it had a cool built in bookshelf.
When we were done at Target it was lunch time so Vanessa suggested we go to lunch and we stopped by this really cool little sub shop. It was really good too so it was a double whammy. We were about half way through lunch when we started up conversation.
"So, I don't know much about you at all. Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself?" She asked.
"Well I'll start with the basics, my name is Anne Renée Wilson, I'm 15 years old, I like the color purple, I play the Viola and Piano, I love reading, I also do a bit of writing, I was born in Alaska but moved here when I was 9, I'm a bit of a theater nerd, I hate writing poems, I am a 4.0 student, and my parents died when I was 10 which is why I'm in the foster system," I told her.
"Wow! What a girl! A 4.0 student that reads and writes for fun and plays 2 instruments. That's really impressive. Girl power," she said with a smiling and adding a little chuckle at the end.
"Yea I mean I guess. I've always wanted to get into a good college so I've always worked hard and I want to make my parents proud of me and the woman they created," I said with a bit of a sad smile.
"As a parent myself I know that your parents would be so proud of you and the woman you have become. You don't deserve what happened to you at all," she said putting a reassuring hand on my arm while giving me a smile.
I gave her a big smile and then finished the last bit of my sandwich and let Vanessa finish eating. Once all of us were done Vanessa grabbed Sebastian and we headed back out the car. Vanessa asked if I had wanted to go anywhere else but honestly I just wanted to go home. She drove us all back to the apartment and we had to make two trips up because of all the stuff we got. Once all of the stuff was finally in the apartment in my room we sat down on the couch. We decided we would just start the whole painting process tomorrow because we just didn't want to start today.
"So what should we do for the rest of the day until dinner? It's really rainy outside so may want to stay inside," Vanessa said as there was a loud crack of thunder outside.
Right as it sounded Sebastian started crying. Poor guy was afraid of thunder, but it's ok because I was too when I was younger. I kept trying to think of things that I would do as a kid that made me feel better. At first I couldn't think of anything but then the best idea hit me.
"Hey Seb, why don't we build a blanket fort," I said enthusiastically.
"That is the perfect plan for a rainy day," Vanessa exclaimed with a childish glint in her eye.
So that's exactly what we did. We ran around to every room in the house rounding up all the blankets and pillows we could find. Once we had all of that rounded up we rounded up the chairs from the dinner table and made our fort. It was probably the most epic blanket fort I had ever made and I was so excited get in it and watch movies. Now that the fort was done we had to pick out the movies we were going to watch and make our popcorn.
After much debate we decided to watch a bunch of old Disney movies, which were honestly mostly princess movies. Hey, they are classics. We made our big bowl of popcorn and popped in our first movie, which was Cinderella, and climbed into the blanket fort. Sebastian was snuggled in between Vanessa and I and our popcorn bowl was in his lap. We sat there for hours just snuggling Sebastian and watching amazing old Disney movies. Mulan had just started when we heard someone open and close the door and heard Lin shout hello. Vanessa paused Mulan and her and I poked our heads out of the fort.
"Sick blanket fort! Am I allowed in there? Also I brought home some Thai food for dinner," Lin said holding up a bag.
"Yes of course you are but lets eat on the counter here," Vanessa replied.
We got Sebastian out of the fort and got him his food and we all ate out on the counter but as soon as we were done we moved back into the fort. Vanessa was on one end with Sebastian cuddled up to her. Then I hopped in right next to them and finally Lin came in and I was smushed in a big family sandwich. We all ended up falling asleep like that and I can say for a fact that was probably the best night sleep I had in years.
