Her phone rings at two in the morning. 

His father struggles for words.

She clutches the receiver tightly in her hand.  "Tell me," she whispers, her voice trembling.  He was suppose to be home hours ago, home with her.

"It's Jay.  He's-"  His father's throat closes painfully but he forces himself to continue.  "We lost Jay."

Her feet give way and she slumps down on the side of the bed, a hand clamped over her mouth, trying to hold back her sobs as her world goes gray.
