Chapter 5: Garden

Nagisa's POV

I thought it was gonna be another day of me drawing all day in my room, until a doctor came and he said that I can start walking around outside the garden!

This hospital has a big garden that patients can play or just walk and relax in it. Not many hospitals have a garden, but I was lucky enough to be in one of those hospitals. I wanted to go outside right away, but I kinda want to wait for Karma-kun to come. It's kinda lonely to walk alone, so...

I took my sketchbook from the end table and started drawing. Because I draw everyday, I'm kinda getting good at it. I mostly draw anime or manga characters.

After a long moment of me drawing, the door opened, and Karma-kun walked in, "Yo, Nagisa~"

I turned my attention to the red-head, "Ah, Karma-kun!"

He sat down on the chair beside my bed, "Drawing again, huh?" He said, smiling at my drawing.

"Yeah, I never actually drawn before, but when I try it out now, I see that it's really fun. And I get to do it everyday, so..." I replied.

He hummed in response.

"Hey, Karma-kun," I stopped drawing and looked at him, "Starting today, I'm allowed to go to the garden that this hospital has."

The boy said, "Really? That's great!" as he rested his head on his right hand.

"And I was thinking if you would like to come with me now."

He stood up, "Sure! Let's go right now."

He called a nurse which then soon came into my room. They both helped me up, since I haven't stood up for a while now. Once I stood up, my legs feel so much better. Unfortunately, I had to bring the IV thing with me, as the nurse said. But I guess that's okay, considering I'll get to go outside.

Walking was pretty tough now, but it's still doable. And the doctor said that I'll feel normal in no time.

We kept walking as the nurse led us outside to the garden. We walked past a hallway, and I see a big glass door that lead outside. I can see some greenery already.

As the nurse opened the door for us, I can feel the fresh and cool air rushing to my face. Oh, how nice that felt.

The garden was big, and it had many patients in it, be it children or elder. Grass, trees, flowers, and plants covered the whole area to make one beautiful garden. There are stone roads on the ground, enough for three people side-by-side.

I saw birds flying in the sky as we entered the big garden. My eyes lit up, "Wow... It's really beautiful."

The nurse smiled, "Patients are allowed to come here everyday, and can stay for as long as they like. If you need help, please do not hesitate to call one of the nurses outside." She explained.

"Yes, thank you very much!" I said. With that, the nurse went back inside the hospital, leaving me and Karma-kun outside.

I take a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air. Karma-kun said, "It's nice after a long time, huh?"

I smiled, "Yeah."

We then started to walk on the road, talking about the usual things we talk about. I saw bugs on the plants, butterflies on the flowers, and squirrels in the trees, sights I haven't seen since that day.

I wanted to run so badly, but I had this IV thing stuck to me, and some of the bruises on my legs still hurt, so they prevented me from doing so.

After walking around, we saw a big tree, and decided to rest under it, despite the benches all in the side of the road.

We sat down under the big tree, shaded from the warm sun. We watched the children play, or the adults just sit down and relax.

"This feels nice..." I started. "It makes me want to come here everyday. I should've brought my sketchbook..."

He chuckled, "You really like to draw now..."

"Yeah."

Seeing that he was wearing his uniform, it reminded me that today was a school day. "What did you do in school today?"

"Sleep. Skip class. Eat." He said lazily.

"Hey! You shouldn't be doing most of those."

"Sorry~" He apologized.

I then saw people eating sandwiches on the grass while they talked happily with each other.

Actually, something about me and Karma-kun now seems... familiar.

That's when it happened, a memory came back into my mind.

"...Hey, Karma-kun," I started, startling him a little from my tone of voice, "Didn't we used to eat under a tr-" Suddenly, my head started hurting, a lot.

It kept getting worse, and I put both of my hands on my head in pain. I felt my head booming, and it felt stronger after each one. I started making low screaming sounds, "Ngh..."

Karma-kun became worried, "Nagisa!? What's wrong!?"

I couldn't take the pain anymore, I wanted it to stop. And it did, because I couldn't feel it anymore as I passed out...

Karma's POV

I watched as Nagisa passed out, dropping on the ground.

What the hell!?

"Nagisa! Oi, Nagisa!!" I shouted as I held her in my arms.

Soon nurses came and helped me to take her back to her room. A doctor came into the room and checked her heartbeat and condition.

"She is unconscious," No frick.

"But her heartbeat is normal and her condition is stable now. She should wake up soon..." He explained.

After he wrote some stuff on his clipboard, he asked me a few questions and left.

I waited for her to wake up. I soon fell asleep until I heard a groan. I woke up to see Nagisa looking at my direction.

"Huh? Karma-kun? What... happened?" She asked.

I released a sigh of relief, "You passed out when we were outside..."

"Oh..."

Remembering the moment before she passed out, I remember her saying something. Something important. She said that she remembered a time where we used to eat under a tree. Is she slowly starting to remember?

I asked her again to confirm it, "Hey, Nagisa, before you passed out, you said something. What was it?"

She thought for a moment, "I said something...? All I remember is that my head started hurting really bad..."

...She forgot about it? More importantly, she forgot the memory about... me?

I need to know more, "H-hey, Nagisa. You remember the time where we would eat lunch under a tree back at school?"

She smiled, "Really? That sounds fun! We should do it here sometime..."

My heart sank as I realized the fact that she forgot a memory of me, one that she remembered before passing out...
