Chapter 13: Square One

Nagisa's POV

I'm still confused.

I couldn't sleep last night thinking about it. Many questions filled my mind. Especially about that red-headed fellow.

"Why does he seem so familiar?"

"What did he mean by 'hypnotize?'"

"Why did he seem so desperate?"

...I needed answers.

"Are you still thinking about it?" The person beside me said.

I snapped out of my thoughts, "Ah, yeah. How could I not?"

"Just choose." He said.

I replied, "That's easy for you to say, Asano-kun."

He asked me, "Who do you believe?"

"Of course, I believe you." I thought for a split second before I said that last word. Was that really true? ...Of course it was.

"Then... the answer is clear, is it not?"

"...Yes." I answered. "At least, it should be..."

After a moment of silence, Asano-kun spoke up again, "Don't believe what he said. He's trying to lure you into his trap."

I stayed silent.

"Besides, is hypnotizing really possible? It's ridiculous." He added.

"I suppose... you're right." I finally answered.

I spoke again, "But for some reason... I can't get him out of my head." I paused.

"I don't know why he seems so familiar when I've never even seen him before. I don't know why his touch makes me relaxed. I don't know why his voice soothes me."

I continued, "There's something about him... that makes me think like this." I looked up as I said, "O-oh, sorry, I've been ranti-"

When I looked at him, he seemed... angry. He was looking down, and I could feel his aura.

"Asano...-kun?" I said his name in surprise. I've never seen that expression before...

"Nagisa?"

"Y-yes?"

"I apologize in advance."

Karma's POV

I ran as fast as I could.

The octopus told me that Asano was hypnotizing her again when he was watching them from the window. "That bastard..."

I gritted my teeth at the thought of Nagisa being with that guy. I can't let it happen. No, I won't let it happen.

I slid Nagisa's door open. "Nagisa!"

...It was too late.

Nagisa was resting her head on Asano's shoulder with him holding it, smirking.

"I'm afraid it's too late, Akabane... She's completely under my spell." Asano said, smirking evilly at me.

I ran up to them and pulled Nagisa away from him. "Nagisa! Snap out of it!" I said to her.

She looked at me with half-opened eyes. I was shocked to see her usually bright and beautiful eyes turned dull and lifeless. They weren't shining anymore.

"...Who are you?" She said, showing no interest. Her usual spirit is gone too. "Please let go of me."

My heart sank. I didn't want to go through this again...

"Nagisa, snap out of it! You don't know what you're thinking! I said, trying to convince her.

"I'm sorry, but aren't you the one who doesn't know what you're thinking? The only one who can touch me like that is... Asano-kun..."

My eyes widened. I let go of her arm, feeling like I've lost all hope.

I looked over to Asano. He was giving me a look that said "I've won."

I left the room without a word.

"What are you going to do now? Give up?" A certain yellow octopus said.

I looked at him, raising my eyebrow, "Don't make me laugh. Of course not."

Koro-sensei laughed, "My, you are persistent."

I said, "Anyway, now would be a good time to steal it."

"I already did. Normally I wouldn't steal things, but this is an exception. It wasn't his to begin with, anyway." The alien said with confidence.

I smirked.

"Then, get everyone ready."
