The next morning I got up extremely early to be sure I wouldn't be late. Everybody else still sleeping.

After I made my morning routine I still had half an hour so I took a book I borrowed in the library yesterday.

When was the time for me to go, the others were getting up. I waved my hand to Anna and made my way to Jeanine's office.

I knocked on the door and waited.

"Come in" A soft voice called.

I opened the door and slowly went in.

"Ah, Rose. Just on time. Please sit down" She said and winked at me.

Wait. Did I see corectly? I also noticed she started to call me Rose.

"How was your sleep, darling?" She asked just when I was about to sit down.

I stopped in my moving and stared at her confused.

"What's wrong?" She asked looking concerned.

I sat down and found the courage to ask.

"Why are you so nice to me?"

Her smile faded a bit.

"That's hard to explain." She said and sighed.

"Well we should get going to the lab." She said changing the subject.

She stood up and went to the door.

"Rose?"

"Oh, sorry Ms Matthews." I said standing up.

"It's okay and you can just call me Jeanine." She replied with a smile.

I smiled back and followed her to the elevator.
We went to the basement. She scanned her ID and the door opened.

I couldn't believe my eyes. Her lab was huge and probably with the newest technology. I smiled brightly.

"Amazing, isn't it?" Jeanine said noticing my excitement.

She went to the desk in the middle and I walked right behind her.

"Your work is prepared. You will be mixing some serums according to the instructions." She exclaimed and stepped a little back.

I read the instructions and got started.

Just when I was mixing some chemicals I heard her gasp.

I turned around and found her staring at me with wide eyes.

I panicked.

"What's wrong?"

She stayed silent.

"You're creeping me out, Jeanine, what's wrong?" I said raising my voice.

"N-nothing." She stammered.

"Excuse me for a moment" She added and walked out od the room.

I was left there confused and hurt. What did I do?

I decided to run after her.

I ran out of the lab and almost bumped into her. She was leaning against the wall and was...crying?

"What did I do wrong?" I asked softly and went to her.

No answer.

"Please, Jeanine."

"You did nothing wrong." She said putting her arms around me catching me of guard.

After a while I hugged her back.

"Then why are you crying?"

"That's a really long story."

"I have time." I replied and put my head on her shoulder.

"Okay, but we should probably go somewhere else. Maybe my apartment?" She said letting go of me looking into my eyes.

I nodded and we walked to her place.

"Well?" I said as soon as
she closed the door.

"You should sit down"

I did as I was told and sat on the couch next to her.

She took a deep breathe.

"Rose, I am your biological mother."

"What!? That's impossible!" I said jumping out of the couch

"What!? That's impossible!" I said jumping out of the couch.

She looked at me sadly.

"It's true, honey."

"Don't you honey me! It's not true!" I screamed.

I was now sobbing hysterically.

She tried to pull me into hug but I pulled away from her.

"What makes you think that!?" I yelled.

"Calm down young lady!" She yelled back.

I looked at her shocked.

"But how do you know that?" I asked quietly.

"Well you're 16 just like my daugher would be. Then your features. You look exackly like me. And your high IQ.
But I still couldn't be sure." She said crying again.

"But then I saw your birthmark."

I was just about to question her but she turned around, grabbed her hair and pointed to her neck.

I gasped. I couldn't believe it. She has the exact same birthmark on the exact same spot.

She turned around again and looked at me sadly.

"That's how I know."

She started walking towards me but I interupted her.

"Don't."

She stopped tears streaming down her face.

I couldn't take it anymore so I ran out of the apartment.

She called my name frantically but I didn't care. I needed to be alone. Like I always had been.
