Love Above All

The Story

I was running through the whole Erudite headquaters tears streaming down my cheeks.

Hurt and confused. That's how I feel now.

I didn't care people were looking weirdly at me I just wanted to go away.

I stopped after I had no air left in my lungs.

I don't what to do. I started running again to the dorm.

Jeanine is my mother? But why I was in Dauntless and not with her in Erudite? Did she give me away to have more time on her work? To be the faction leader?

I want to know the whole truth. The whole story. That means I have to go to her. But not now. I'm not ready yet.

I can't ignore her anyway. All my life I had no family. And now I can't let it go.

Fortunately nobody was in the dormitory. I lay in my bed and started crying again.

Eventually I cried myself into sleep.

When I woke up I looked at the clock.

7:16pm. Have I really slept all day?

I fixed my make up and made my way to the cafeteria for dinner.

Just as I was about to walk in a soft voice called my name.

"Rose?"

Jeanine was going my way with some supervisors.

I gulped nervously and waited for her to aproach me.

"Yes, Ms Matthews?"

"Could you please go with me to my office?" She asks her voice sweat, almost bittersweat.

"Ahm, of course, Ms Matthews."

She apologized to the supervisor and walked with me to her office.

I noticed her hands were shaking uncontrollably. She was nervous as me.

She opened the door and I sat down on the chair I had sat before.

She sat across from me behind her desks and stared at me for a while.

"I...I don't know where to start." She started her voice shaking.

"Why did you give me away?" I asked all of the sudden.

"What?...I didn't. I would never do that." She said putting one of her hands on mine.

I pulled away.

"They took you away from me." She whispered barely for me to here.

I looked at her with disbelief.

"Who did?"I asked now on the edge of tears.

"People who want to destroy me. Enemies of me and your father."

"My father?"

"You know we were looking for you everywhere. And..."

She quickly wiped her tears and continued.

"He..he died trying to find you. They...they killed him."

I didn't know what to say. We were both crying now. She stood up from her chair and went towards me. She took my hand, but this time I didn't pull away.

"Come. I want to show you something."

We exited her office and she took me to her apartment.

We walked through her apartment to one of the doors with name Chloe on it.
She opened it and we went in.

The walls of the room was blue unlike the rest of the apartment. There was a blue bed and in the corner was a criddle.

This is the room from my dream.

I put my hand over my mouth and started sobbing.

"I've never stopped believing that you are alive and that one day you will come back home."
She said crying and hugged me tightly.

I hugged her back.

We were standing there at least 10 minutes until I pulled away.

"So my name is Chloe."

"Yes." She whispered smiling and pulled me in hug again.

This time it was her who pulled away.

"You can stay here tonight. Only if you want to."

"I would love to."

"Okay then I'll make us dinner."

She walked out and I looked around the room.

A picture on the wall caught ma attention. It was a photo of a blonde woman. Definitely Jeanine. She was holding a baby and was smiling brightly into the camera.

I put my hand on it and smiled. So that's how I looked when I was a baby. And Jeanine, she looks so young and happy. She didn't changed much over the years.

"Darling, dinner is ready." Jeanine called pulling me out of thoughts.

I walked in the kitchen. There were two plates of a chicken salat prepared on the dining table.

"That looks lovely. Thank you." I said politely.

I sat down and started to eat.

After the dinner we both sat on the couch and I cuddled into her arms.

Neither of us said anything. It was comfortable silence. For the first time of my life I felt safe.

"Are you tired, dear?" Jeanine said playing with my hair.

"Yes, I should probably go to bed." I replied and stood up.

Jeanine stood up as well. She went to her room and came back with a shirt in her hand.

"You can sleep in my shirt since you have all you things in the dorm."

"Okay, thank you."

She hugged me and kissed my forehead.

"Goodnight, love."

"Goodnight"

I hugged her one last time and went to my room.

I put on her shirt and lay in the bed.

I closed my eyes and fell asleep with a smile on my face.
