Rain washes the blood from the streets
Death is sated for now
Doors are bolted as souls quake in fear
Children hide behind their mothers' skirts
Husbands stand
Staring out the window
Guns held in a bone-crushing grip
Animals hide in every corner
All wait for the same thing...
Another attack
For that is all life is
Living from slaughter to slaughter
Until the day they die
Then their descendants pick up the fallen weapons and continue this dreary life
A rustle from the trees at the forest's edge causes hearts to stop and breaths to hitch
Cold terror floods bodies
All is quiet once again
Everyone is on edge
The sun is setting
The time has again come
The creatures stalk slowly from the brush
Grinning with awful yellow daggers
Red eyes glow in the twilight
Tails swish as their gaits quicken
Knowing that their prey waits, frozen in fear with nothing more than wooden walls separating them from an agonizing death
Putrid breath puffs as the beasts break into a run
They move as one
Like a flock of birds
Every movement calculated and sure
Terrible in their disciplined charge
They hit the villas and the screams begin
Men and women torn apart
Wailing children ripped from the arms of the dead by well-meaning neighbors, only to be disemboweled as they turn to face yet another Nightmare
Soon nothing is left but the stench of death and puddles of slick blood
The monsters move on
The night will be long
No one is safe
