Sanaya's P.O.V.:-
They were back in their hotel room. Jay was sleeping soundly next to her but she just couldn't sleep. Sanaya gave up trying to sleep and got out of the bed and went to sit on the couch and gaze out at the sea. She looked at the time on her phone and calculated what time it would be in NY. She called Ishani and said," I need to talk." Sanaya took a deep breath and recounted her past few days experience with Jay and how he had cared for her and how she was losing her grip on herself again. She didn't want to believe that it was genuine. After all, it was just two years. Two years and then everything would go back to normal. Ishani listened to her best friend speak and then said," Sanaya, I think you should give this marriage and Jay a chance."
"Are you out of your mind, Ishani??", Sanaya whisper yelled while glancing at her sleeping husband.
"Hear me out. I really think that you should give it a chance because you've changed and so has he. But what's not changed is your feelings for him and you deserve to be happy. He knows it's a two year thing. He doesn't have to care or do anything for you. But he does. There must be a reason for that. He doesn't stand to gain anything out of caring for you or respecting your wishes. Think, Sanaya. It's not so hard to try. Take time if you need to, but try. And listen, I have a really busy day at work, so I'll ttyl, okay?"
"Bye."
Sanaya hung up and sighed. She thought about what Ishani said and it didn't sound hard. She could try. She wanted to let go, she wanted to be that happy couple at the beach. She wanted romantic dinners, movies, walking hand in hand without any hesitation and a chance to be happy. But it was also difficult. She had tried to do all that once. What had resulted was a heart break she never really recovered from. And now, she was married to the man who had so ruthlessly broken her heart and left her for someone else. The same man who was so different than how he had been before. The man who now cared for her. Woke up in the middle of the night to check on her, someone who liked holding hands and could compromise his own happiness for her sake.
Sanaya lay back on the couch and looked at Jay. He looked so harmless in his sleep. He slept like a baby. She smiled looking at him. The way he pouted while sleeping. The way he curled up in the foetal position. The way the hair at the back of his head stood up. Sanaya could look at him sleeping all day. She knew her feelings had never really gone away. She just did a good job at hiding it. But now, Jay made it increasingly difficult for her to hold on to her anger and resentment towards him. That too, for something that happened so many years ago. Could she not forgive him? She could. Of course she could. It would be so much easier if she didn't resent him every time she looked at him. She drifted off to sleep before she could think any further.Jay's P.O.V.:-
Jay woke up the next morning to find Sanaya sleeping on the couch. He wondered if he had kicked her out of bed or something in his sleep. After all, he had slept better than he had in days. It was quite possible that he had. He thought of waking her up but then decided against it. He decided to wait till half an hour before the hotel stopped serving breakfast to wake her up and went ahead and freshened up. When he came out of the shower however, he found Sanaya awake and rummaging through the wardrobe.
He went up behind her and whispered in her ear," did I kick you out of bed last night?"
He saw a visible shiver go down Sanaya's spine before she whispered back,"no. I couldn't sleep."
"Hmm", he hummed in her ear, not quite touching her yet close enough to see her grip the clothes in her hand tightly.
He moved back and she turned.
She wasn't looking at him. He didn't move from his position. He continued looking at her till she took a deep breath and looked into his eyes.
"I want to say something."
"Continue", Jay said.
" I want to give us another chance. I don't want this cold and distant marriage. I want a normal relationship with you, if that's okay with you."
Jay couldn't believe his ears.
He stared at her unblinkingly then as she lowered her gaze and started taking a step back, he moved ahead and kissed her deeply.
"Does that mean I can do this? And this?", he asked, tickling her sides.
She laughed and said,"Yes, yes you can."***
