Derek's dad smiled at his son with proudness in his eyes. He walked closer to us, but he only has make eye contact with his first born. Mom tried her best not to cry as she sees her ex for the first time in years as Liam, who was holding Mia, made sure she calmed down for our sake. John looked shocked to see the man before him as he was having a staring contest with Derek

"Hi Derek." My father told him. The strange yet familiar man took the time to greet everyone else before turning back to us, his eyes noticing his grandson for the first time. He covered his mouth as tears brimmed his brown eyes, clearly delighted to be privileged to be able to meet the infant. "He's so beautiful. Looks just like you, son.

"Thank you." Derek croaked, before clearing his throat to fill in the tension in the square space.
I felt awkward being in the middle of this family reunion. Sure, I am holding the only physical, blood connection that I have to them and I should be here to support my boyfriend, now fiance, but I feel as if I do not belong here at the moment. That I am the intruder in my assigned room.

Thankfully, John decided to break the ice.

"What's his name?"

"Danny. It's short for Daniel." Melly informed.

With that said, mom took my son out of my arms, but I didn't mind seeing how she was looking at him with loved. I could not help, but smile as she whispered sweet stuff to infant's sensitive ears.

"I promised to spoil you in anyway I can." I heard her say.

"Oh, geez." I said, sarcastically, rolling my eyes to show that I wasn't serious.

Last thing that I need right now is a bratty child.

We all laughed her response. Danny got passed to his step-grandfather, who only held him in admiration. He was playing with his limbs, making funny faces at the baby before he passed him to John.

"Happy birthday, you little squirt." John greeted his nephew.

I giggled as John conversed to the one hour old as if he were seven. He told him that he can do whatever he wanted to do whenever he's over at his house such as eating crayons and running around with scissors. Oh boy. My son has not been alive for a day and John is talking about how he will let him mess up his life. He then got passed to my father-in-law, who didn't hold back a tear as he continues to admires Danny the way any grandfather should. I could tell that the man has a lot of things on his mind, but all he could say is how beautiful our son is before he was returned to me.

"Hey, what about me?" Mia asked. "Can't hold the baby?"

Derek and I exchanged a look of concern. Mia is only four years old and as far as I know, she does not have any experience in holding children. While I do feel bad for leaving her out of meeting the baby, for my child's safety, it's best if we wait until we get home for Mia to hold Danny.
Derek took a deep breath before smiling down at our younger, step-sister.

"Sorry, Mia. You're kind of too young to holding Danny." Seeing her pout, he added, "But you can play with him when we get home. If you want you can give him a kiss on the head."
