Kay's POV
"Luke Hemmings,"
My breath hitched in my throat as the man started to read the first words on the file he was holding.
"Is not you're Soulmate." He read, "You're soulmate is Michael Clifford!"
The three of us stood there with wide eyes, not saying a word, for a solid minute.
"O-okay. Th-Thank you." I stuttered just above a whisper, finally getting words to come out of my mouth.
We began our walk back towards the van, keeping or distance from each other.
Much like to walk to the van, the whole ride was silent.
Michael opened his mouth to speak once we took the turn on to Ashton's street, "I-"
"Shut up, Michael." Luke muttered immediately after a sound came out of Michael's mouth.
Luke sighed, "Sorry, Mike, just-just I don't feel like talking right now."
I couldn't wait to be out of the car, I practically jumped out before it even came to a full stop as I mumbled my goodbyes.
"Hey how'd it go? Where's Luke and Mikey?" Ashton asked, he had probably been waiting by the window because he opened the door as we pulled up.
"I think I just made everything worse," I muttered, stepping in the house.
"Everything is ruined, worse than before. What am I supposed to do now? Imagine how Luke must feel! Oh my g-" I started.
"Woah! Kay, slow down!" Ashton interrupted.
"Is anyone else here?" I questioned. Ashton shook his head no.
"Good," I said, letting the tears I've been holding in go.
Ashton displayed a look of concern on his face as he wrapped his arms around me.
"I don't know what I was thinking! It's a mess and it always will be a mess! Even if it was Luke that would still-"
"Kay, hold on? It wasn't Luke?" Ashton pulled away to look at my face.
I sighed, "Michael's my soulmate."
Ashton didn't say anything, he was in shock.
"I just- I just wanna be alone." I muttered, pushing past him to sit outside to think.
The air was cold on my tear stained face, making goosebumps appear on my body.
I ran my hand over the goosebumps on my arm as I sat on the swing bench.
Goosebumps. They appeared quickly, just like the time Michael made them appear by merely touching my arm.
I should've known, the signs were there. Goosebumps might not be considered significant, but I think they are when Luke never made them appear.
I buried my face into my hand, thinking about how much everything has been screwed up because of me.
I destroyed everything.
Luke's POV
2 days later"Do you want something to eat?"
"Do you want something to drink?"
"Dinners on the table."
"Do you want a tissue to dry your eyes?"
"I'm leaving tissues by the foot of your bed."
"There's water on your nightstand."
"Do you need anything?"
People didn't know how to leave a guy alone.
My family doesn't seem to realize I don't need nor want anything from them right now besides for them to go away.
So when they opened the door for the thirty seventh time and counting, I snapped once I heard the door creak.
"No! I don't want water or food or tissues or-or whatever else you have to offer me! All I want is for you to leave me alone!" My voice cracked from not speaking for a long time.
"I'm afraid I can't do that." A deep voice that I haven't heard in two days said.
I turned towards the voice, "What the hell are you doing here?"
Michael's POV
"I need to talk to you." My eyes widened at Luke's appearance.
He had bags under his bloodshot eyes, his hair was a ruffled mess, his cheeks were covered in dry tears, and he was draped on his bed in nothing but sweatpants.
Luke rolled his eyes, turning back around to shove his face back in his pillow, which had the outline of Luke's face dented into it from his lack of movement.
"Why do you look so terrible? Everything worked out for you." Luke muttered, noticing my similar appearance. Difference is that I had regular clothes on.
"Because of you." I answered. Luke scoffed into his pillow before I continued, "Because it's my fault you're like this. I ruined our friendship. That's why."
Luke sat up, making eye contact with me for the first time.
I scratched the back of my neck, "You're my best friend and-and I went and fell in love with your girl. And now I've taken her away. That-that makes me feel like shit because I-I hurt you. Dammit look at you! That's my fault! My best friend is heart broken because of me!"
There was a three minute pause. Neither of spoke, only looked around Luke's room.
"You're not my best friend, Mike." Luke uttered, making my heart drop.
"You're my brother." Luke finished and I couldn't stop the single tear from slipping down my face as I cracked a weak grin.
I walked over to Luke's side, embracing him in a hug.
"You smell like shit." I chuckled.
"Sorry, I didn't have time to bathe in cologne like you." Luke scoffed, pulling away.
"Are we alright?" I asked.
"We will be." Luke nodded, "Now go get her."
"W-what?" I stuttered.
"Michael, she's," Luke chocked on his words but managed to continue, "she's your soulmate now. Go talk to her."
"Luke I-"
"Michael." Luke interrupted, "It's okay. Just take care of her for me, yeah?"
I nodded, pulling Luke into another hug before we bid our goodbyes.
