Kay's POV
We sat across from each other in the crowded restaurant, not a word had been said since we received our food.
It wasn't that we were eating the food which would prevent us from speaking, both of us barely touched out food. It was the obvious awkwardness that was radiating off the both of us.
I cringed at the flash of light from the window. This little ordeal would be all over the media by sunset. Realizing the lack of privacy is what pushed me over the edge.
I scooted my seat backwards, away from Michael, tears brimming in my eyes.
"I'm sorry Michael, I can't do this." I said weakly, stepping backwards away from him.
"Kay," Michael started in a soothing voice.
"No, Michael, I know this is how they said it was supposed to be but, but I'm in love with Luke." I admitted, "I-I used to think I didn't love Luke because I never had a heart on my wrist. But that was just me relying on that stupid system too much. It was wrong, I'm sorry Michael, but I love Luke." I reached up, wiping the tears away.
Michael didn't say anything as I stood there, frozen, unsure of what to do next.
"I understand." Michael finally blurted, "I really do. I saw you and Luke together, I saw the looks you have each other. But what will happen after this? The system-"
"The system is bullshit. No matter what the system says, that was real, and I'm sorry but this isn't. The only reason we're here now is because we were doing what the creators of some program told us what to do. We've relied on their system so much that we forgot that it's technology that matched us together, a computer. Last time I checked, computers can't feel love." I ranted, not take a breath in between sentences.
Michael nodded as he stared at the ground, "You're right, which is why you have to go. Go and do whatever will make you happy. I just want you to be happy."
"Thank you, Michael." I genuinely smiles as embraced him into a hug, before walking away from him.
I tried to run off to the left, but I nearly ran into the group of people with large cameras.
I groaned in annoyance, "Don't you people have a life of your own!"
I began sprinting the other way, calling a taxi over, hopeful that it could lead me away from the group.
"Just-just get me away from them." I said.
"Rough day?" The taxi driver questioned as he drove off.
"Yeah, and I'd really like it if we could just not speak to each other, thanks." I said rudely.
I sighed in relief when there was no sign of paparazzi anywhere. I reach for my bag to make sure I had enough money, only to realize I didn't have anything but a debit card which the taxi driver couldn't take.
"Uh, sir?" I questioned nervously.
He hummed in response and I proceeded to tell him my situation.
He sighed as he pulled over before turning around to face me, "I can see you're having a bad day, so I'm gonna let you get off here free of charge. This is mostly because I realize that paparazzi was following you, so you must be famous or something, and I don't want to get sued for anything. So just get out of my car."
"Oh. That's, uh, nice of you." I said, leaving the car quickly.
