Kay's POV
"I think this looks familiar." I sighed as I walked aimlessly around the city.
I opened my phone to look at the maps app one more time, even though it was hopeless. I couldn't remember anyone's damn address.
"No, no, no, no, no!" I cried as my phone screen went dark.
I felt like snapping the piece of shit technology in half, luckily I don't have that kind of strength.
Instead, I took a deep breath and put the phone in my pocket.
Eventually I found someone walking out of a Verizon store with a telephone book.
"Excuse me!" I called, "Could I borrow that! I'm visiting some friends, and I have no clue where I am. I want to see if I can find them in there."
"If you want you can use my phone to call them." The lady offered.
"I, uh, don't know their numbers by heart." I explained.
"Alright, what's their names?" The women opened the book.
"Uh, Luke Hemmings." I said.
She looked up at me, then closed the book. "Alright, I know you must be a fan of this guy but you can't go invading his privacy!"
"No, no! Honestly, I know him. If my phone wasn't dead I'd show you-"
"Look, I have to bring this to my mother," the women held up the phonebook, "Find someone else to bother."
"Of course she had to fucking know who they are. Dammit." I sighed, walking along the sidewalk.
Eventually, I ended up somewhere familiar.
I picked up a strand of my hair as I looked up the building, "Fuck it. It's an off day, I gotta do something stupid to get my mind off it."
I walked into the building and up to the front desk.
"Hi, I was wondering if you had any openings for right now?" I asked.
"It's your lucky day, how about you sit over there and I'll send someone over." The girl smiled, pointing to a chair by the door.
Ten minutes later, my name was being called like they do at the doctors office.
"Hello, I'm Ad- Hey don't I know you?" The girl questioned.
I turned to see a girl with silver hair and I instantly recognized her face, "Yeah, you dyed my-" I paused before deciding what to say, "my friends hair."
"Right, Michael, wasn't it?" She questioned, bringing me to the sinks so she could was my hair.
"Yeah, and I'm Kay." I reminded.
"Oh yeah, in case you forgot I'm Addy." She smiled.
"I remember." I assured her.
"Cool, so what do you have in mind for your hair?" She asked as she put shampoo in it.
"Could you just," I paused, thinking about what I wanted, "I think I have some ideas."
••
"Holy shit." I said, looking in the mirror in front of me.
"Do you like it?" Addy asked.
My hair was now resting just above my shoulders in loose curls. The color was completely different. It went from a light hazelnut to a brown so dark it could be mistaken for black. The color gradually lightened towards the tips but it was still darker than anything I've ever had.
"I fucking love it." I admitted.
Addy smiled, "I do too, it suits you."
"Thanks." I said sincerely.
"Alright, now I'll take you up front and you can pay." Addy said, leading me to the front.
"You guys take debit right? Because that's all I have." I bit my lip.
"Yeah, we do." Addy said.
As I handed her my card, I noticed that scar I saw the day I met her. This time I didn't hold back, "If you don't mind me asking, where did you get that scar?"
"I don't mind at all. When I went through the Soulmate Program, they told me I was a flaw and that I didn't have anyone. I thought that was bullshit." Addy explained.
"So you- you took it out?" I shuddered.
"Kind of. My oldest brother always thought the Soulmate Program was a scam, even if it did help him find his wife. Anyways, he's a surgeon and he took it out for me." Addy finished.
"Addy, do you think-" I sighed, knowing this was probably a bad idea, "Would he do that for someone else?"
