~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She needed someone to love her,
But no one ever could.
Her brittle smiles,
Her sharp words,
That cut them deep into their skin like knives;
meant to hurt, meant to make them bleed.
So that she knew no one would come
Close enough to see,
What she was hiding inside
Her mask of hate and lies.
The pain, the insults that darkened her core and blackened her heart.
Her eyes sparkled with disdain,
Her inquisitiveness to learn was evident.
It was her escape.
Getting lost in the mystical oblivion, though, proved to be lethal.
Because little did she know that
Curiosity always killed the cat.
Curiosity consumed her,
She'd wander about the enchanting woods and,
Merge with mesmerising colors
It freed her spirit.
She'd play tag with the wind and,
Let strands of her hair dance to the rhythm of the same,
Learning and observing and then rejecting what it had to offer,
Keeping all her cards close to herself,
For opening up to possibilities had only exploited her insecurities,
Needling her from inside as she had tried to embroider her life.
She didn't want her innocence wrecked again,
She didn't want a repeat...
Sometimes the world around us and the people in our individual worlds can be cruel and hateful. So much so that the person subjected to them can do nothing other than self preservation. To count their steps and make cautious moves so that nothing unexpected hits them again. Barring themselves from the enticing beauty of the world that still exists, fascinated but yet living a life in 'Apprehension.'
