I imagined that flying would be amazing. I always envied Five and then Lina for their ability to fly. But now I realize that, though it may be fun alone, carrying someone while flying really saps your energy. Daniela and I are only about half way back to Little Rock and I feel like I'm going to die from exhaustion.
"D-Daniela," I stutter. "Can we please take a break? I'm feeling a little light-headed."
"Sure. Whatever. I'm kind of hungry anyway," Daniela replies. I sigh and start to descend. It's a lot harder to resist gravity than you probably think it is and I have to lower us while resisting the pull of gravity that just wants to slam us into the ground. I lower us next to a purple building. The parking lot has a few cars in it, but there are no people walking around to see us fly down. I look at the building and see that from a sign that it is the Purple Cow. I can smell French fries from inside.
"Let's eat here," I suggest. I turn to look at Daniela and she's already heading towards the door.
"I hope you have money, Four," she says. She holds the door open for me and we go in. We get a table near the window and sit down. I reach into my backpack an pull out a twenty dollar bill.
"Lucky for the both of us, I did get money. I have two-hundred bucks," I say. I order a burger with fries and a purple milkshake from a waitress with curly red hair.
"What do you want, Daniela?" I ask her. Her nose is still buried in her menu.
"I'll have the same thing," she says, not looking up. Once the waitress walks away, I wave my hand in front of her face.
"Hello? You good?"
"Yeah. I just have no idea how we're going to find Five," Daniela says, shaking her head. "What if we can't find him? He could be going even farther away and it's my fault that we're here!"
"I actually agree with you. I think Five will be in Little Rock," I say encouragingly. I decide to not tell we that I think that five went back to the Mogadorians. It would just upset her. I think she's already disgusted the anyone would choose the side of the aliens that killed he stepfather.
The waitress brings us our food and I sigh at the smell of it. I didn't realize how hungry I was until now.
"We can take a break if you want," Daniela says. "Or just borrow someone's car. Why did we decide to fly anyway?"
"I thought it would be easier and the we might run into Five in the sky, but so far it isn't working."
"I think we should take at least an hour break. You're all pale and sweaty; it makes you look very unhot."
"So you think I'm hot usually?" I wriggle my eyebrows. I actually get a smile and chuckle from Daniela.
"Good try. You're decent on your good days," she responds, smirking.
I smile. "You know I'm good looking," I say, flexing my muscles. I feel like I'm betraying Sarah slightly by acting like this, but I know nothing will never happen between Daniela and I; we definitely in the friend-zone. And I'm glad. I'm not ready for another relationship.
"So do you wanna just pick up our search tomorrow or..." Daniela waits for me to finish.
"Let's make it to the Capitol. Maybe we can find Five. We can at least check in on Six and Sam. They'll be making it there in a few hours." I'm kind of hoping that we can find I've and help Six and Sam defeat Phiri. The Mogs have a lot of new tech and I don't want to take any risks.
"Well I guess we can just hang around here for a while. I pulled up Google Maps and look where we are," Daniela says. She holds her phone in front of my face. The words "Little Rock" pop up on the screen.
