"Who are you worried about most?" I ask Marina as we eat scrambled eggs. We didn't know how to make anything else with eggs, and Eight bought a dozen eggs, so we thought we might as well eat them.
"I don't know," Marina says. But she looks concerned. She doesn't seem like she's really paying attention to me.
I wave my hand in front of her face. "Hello? Marina?"
"Huh? What?" Marina sits up abruptly.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"It's just...nothing."
"What? Don't make me try and use my telepathy to read your thoughts," I tease, playfully poking her in the arm. I miss the days when we were normal friends, living with orphanage in Spain.
Marina sighs. "I always wondered how things would be if Eight did come back somehow, if we'd still be in love. I didn't know if I felt the same way, but turns out, I do feel the same way. I still love him." Marina shakes her head. "And now we're split up and if anything happens to him, I don't know what I'll do! I'm sick with worry! It was like going through hell when he died."
I get up from my seat and hug Marina.
"Don't worry! I'm sure everything will all turn out fine. I'm probably not supposed to say this, but I've been going through different scenarios of the future through my Legacy and haven't seen Eight dying in any of them. It could change, but so far, things seem to be going pretty good," I say.
I've been escaping into my mental Legacies at night and, though the war will be brutal, I've seen futures I can live with.
"Thanks, Ella. Now all we have to worry about is getting all of the Human-Garde together and all of the others succeeding. I don't get how you handle all of the stress," she says.
"I'm not really handling it. I try to stay calm on the outside, but all of the action happens inside of my head. My mind is about to explode with all of the activity going on inside."
"I get you. I feel like if anyone else gets hurt, I'm gonna fall apart. I couldn't save Eight or Sarah!" Marina puts her head in her hands.
"Stop it! Neither of those times were your fault! Stop blaming yourself!" I say.
"You're right." Marina sighs. "So how are we going to contact all of the others?"
"I have no idea." I've been pondering it for months and have no idea how I created the vision with all of the others.
"Well, can you contact Legacy and have it work its magic again?" Marina asks.
"I've tried. No response."
"Maybe we can both try," Marina suggests.
"What?" I ask. "How? You don't have the same Legacies as me."
"Well, you told me that you were able to pull everyone into the vision because we all had a piece of Lorien in us that gives us Legacies. I have Lorien in me and maybe it can give me the ability to help you connect with the others."
"I guess we can try," I say, shrugging.
"Okay. We need to be focused. Let's sit on the couch."
We walk over to the couch an sit across from each other. I grab her hand and squeeze it. She squeezes mine back.
"Let's try and concentrate really hard," Marina says. She closes her eyes and I follow her example. I concentrate on channeling the Lorien inside of me and contacting Lorien. Nothing happens and I begin to tell Marina that we might need to try something else when I get a warm, soft feeling and feel myself being lifted up. Not physically moving, but something in my mind changing. It's Legacy.
