Run, Biscuit says in my mind. Hurry! Get away!
But he and I both know that's not gonna happen.
"Marina! Get to Biscuit!" I yell. "Everyone else, let's kick Phiri's butt."
We move towards her, preparing our Legacies, but before we can, Phiri let's out a scream in Mogadorian and about twenty Mogs come pouring out of the capitol.
"We've been waiting a long time for you all to show up," Phiri says. She turns to her companions. "Capture the Garde, but only kill them if they cause problems."
That was what set me off. I summon a huge ball of fire in my hand and launch it at the Mogadorians. It hits a group and knocks out about five of them. I see Six move to e back of us and start holding her hands up to the sky. Yeah, a storm would be pretty nice right now, especially if it's on our side.
Eight teleports above the Mogs and turns into a tiger. He slashes at the Mogs as he falls and takes out a few.
Lina launches lighting at one of the largest Mog scouts and it shoots at her with its blaster, but she cancels it's blasts with her electricity.
Nine grabs a small decorative tree from the garden and swings at the right side of the group. Mark wrestles over a blaster with a Mog while Sam lifts him with his telekinesis.
Marina and Daniela go for Phiri. Daniela uses her Medusa Legacy to turn Phiri's feet to stone and she screams in fury. Marina grabs Biscuit, who's unconscious and dripping blood. She runs to the side and presses her hands to Biscuit's wound. Daniela starts turning the rest of Phiri to stone, but then Phiri's dagger glows red and she uses it to cut off the stone like it's butter and she frees herself.
"What? How-" Daniela stutters.
"My knife has been charmed with the power to overcome your Legacies," Phiri snarls. She lunges at Daniela, but I (from watching Lina) shoot electricity at Phiri hit her. Because I'm inexperienced, it only stuns Phiri, but it leaves me feeling a little tingly and woozy.
Won't be trying that one anytime soon, I think, trying to shake off the feeling.
I look to the rest of the group. There are still about twelve Mogs left. Eight has turned into an eagle and is clawing at the Mogs while Nine keeps swinging his tree. The sky booms and I see Six still trying to create a storm. Her eyes are closed and her face is strained. I see that Marina has healed Biscuit, but he is still passed out.
"Daniela!" I yell. She's running to Marina. Phiri is now paying attention to Six. "Help Marina get Biscuit out of here!" He's a big golden retriever and I think Marina will need some help. She and Daniela lift Biscuit up and use their enhanced speed to run to the café across the street.
"Six, look out!" Mark yells.
I turn around. All of the Mogs are aiming their blasters at Six, whose storm has begun, causing lightning and hail. Phiri stands triumphantly. Six grunts and a big piece of hail falls and hits Phiri on top of the head. She crumples to the ground and a scout picks her up and carries her off.
A large Mog steps forward. He has a helmet with red designs on it and a ornate sword at his side. I infer that he's Phiri's second in command. "Shoot the one who made the storm. She is causing too many problems."
I hear the hum of blasters loading up.
"Six!" Nine yells as he throws his tree at the Mogs. The big Mog punches it and the tree crumbles. Eight dives at the big Mog, but he the one standing next to him smacks him with his blaster. Eight is thrown all the way to the capitol and slams into the side. He turns back to a human and falls to the ground.
"Eight!" Lina screams. She runs to get him.
Now we're too late. The Mogs shoot their guns. Six is so focused on the storm she doesn't even open her eyes. Then, at the last moment, Sam jumps in front of Six and puts on ark around her and one in front of him.
"Stop!" Sam yells. "Leave us alone!" But they don't. The Mogs shoot a dozen beams of energy at Sam and Six and I know nothing will get there in time to save them.
"No! Sam!" I yell. What will I do if Sam is gone? He's my best friend, the first person who reached out to me in Paradise besides Sarah. Oh Sarah. I can't lost Sam and her.
I close my eyes and fight back tears. I hear an explosion and open my eyes to see Six and Sam's corpses. The thing is, though, they're fine. Six and Sam are both staring with eyes as wide as saucers.
"What! Impossible!" The Mog leader shouts.
I then notice the rippling, almost completely transparent, purple bubble around Six and Sam.
"What is that?" Nine yells. "That thing around them."
It's Mark that realizes it. "It's a force field, obviously."
Then it hits me. "Sam! It's a new Legacy!"
"Really?" Sam exclaims.
"Yes!" Six yells. We have to scream at each other to hear each other over the roaring of the storm.
"Nice storm, Six!" Nine yells.
Then, the Mog leader yells. "Okay. Enough small talk. Time to die or be mine."
I see Lina picking off the Mogs in the back of the mob, but there are still about six left.
They aim their guns at Nine, Sam, Six, Mark, and I.
"Just stop!" I hear Lina scream.
Her voice ripples across us and I feel compelled to stop what I'm doing. The Mogs turn to face her.
Lina's face is red with anger and she yells at the top of her lungs, "Just drop your guns and leave us alone!"
I feel the strange desire to walk away. What is this? The Mogs apparently do too. They drop their guns with a confused look on their face.
Nine quietly runs over to me. "I think Lina has Convinco."
"What!" I whisper/yell.
"It's a Legacy that gives you the power of persuasion," Nine explains. "Sandor's wife had that Legacy."
"Neat. Its working pretty well," I say. Just as the words leave my lips, the Mogs come out of their trance.
"Forget Phiri's 'plan,'" the Mog leader yells. "I am a pure-born general and I say kill every Loric in sight!"
"I don't think so!" yells a voice behind him. Phiri stands with a bandage on her head and pure fury on the rest of her. "Capture the Loric! I need them alive! We will have their Legacies, but my tech only works on alive subjects!"
"Phiri, who even voted for you to be our leader? I'm tired of your stupid plan," the Mog general screams.
I motion for us all to run and Sam, Six, Nine, and Mark turn and run towards Marina and Daniela. Sam dissolves his force field as they run, leaving him more relaxed looking. Nine stops to scoop up Biscuit off a café table and they take off running town the street.
I start to follow them, but first turn around to make sure Lina and Eight are all right. Eight is still unconscious and Lina is shaking him, desperately trying to wake him up. I see him sit up slightly and grab Lina. They disappear and I turn to see them teleport over with the others. Lina supports Eight and they keep running.
I superspeed to catch up with everyone and we run as fast as we can away from the angry Mogadorians.
