"How much longer?" Ella moans. "I'm extremely carsick."
"We've got a couple hours left. I'm about to stop at an ice-cream place. My phone says there's one in about a mile," I reply.
We didn't have enough money to fly to D.C., so Ella and I rented a car. She doesn't know how to drive, so I drove ten hours yesterday and we're going to get to D.C. around four o'clock today. I'm utterly exhausted, but I'm trying not to show it for Ella's sake.
"Okay. Ice-cream will help."
I see a pink building with an ice-cream cone statue in front of it. I pull into the drive-through and we're the only people in line.
"What luck!" I say. "What do you want?"
"Just give me a sec to look at the menu," Ella replies. She leans forward to look around me to the drive-through menu.
"Hello! Welcome to Sandy's Ice-cream Parlor," says a perky male through the speaker. "What can I get you?"
"I'll have a chocolate ice-cream cone," I say into the speaker. I turn to Ella. "What do you want?"
"Umm, I'll have a cookies & cream ice-cream cone," she says.
Once we are happily licking our ice-cream cones, we hit the road again.
"How many Human-Garde do you think are already at the Embassy Suites? The boy from Washington D.C. should be there," Ella says.
"Yeah, he should be, but it might take the other's more time. They've never teleported before and probably have a lot of explaining for their parents," I say. "It make my brain hurt trying to imaging how many Human-Garde there are, and how many are actually going to come."
"You're right. Let's change the subject," Ella suggests. She turns dramatically towards me. "So, let's talk about you and Eight," she says, flicking her eyebrows up and down.
"What about us? We haven't seen each other for the last two days," I reply. I sigh at the thought of his beautiful, mischievous green eyes.
"You guys are so cute together. Do you think I'll ever someone like him for me?" Ella asks. "I know Nine and I aren't ever gonna get married."
"I'm sure you will," I assure Ella. "Meet someone. I don't know about Nine. He seems to flirt with every girl he sees."
"Actually, I did see a Human-Garde boy that looked around my age. He was really cute!" Ella says, blushing slightly.
"Well, maybe you'll meet him tonight."
"I hope so." It's kind of adorable and sweet watching her as she fantasizes over her cute guy. I know happy it made me when I met Eight.
"Are you and Eight officially dating?" Ella asks.
"I think so? Maybe not," I say. "We kissed a few times and we both definitely want to be together, but he hasn't officially asked me on a date. We haven't really had time to."
"I'm sure he'll take you on a fancy date after we save the world," Ella says.
I sure hope so. My Cepân once told me that Loric only fall truly in love once. I think Eight's my one and I hope I'm his. Honestly, though, I'm kind of worried that Eight has a little crush on Lina, but I don't mention this to Ella. They definitely spend a lot of time together. I also thought Six and Eight had a thing between them, but know there're like brother in sister, so I don't really know.
"Yep, if we can save the world," I say.
In stories, the good guys always win and there's always a happily ever after, but it's a lot harder to image a happy ending in real life.
