TWENTY-SEVEN: A HERO ALTOGETHER

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."

SUPRISINGLY, EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO normal. Not only was everyone safe - Gretal was safe. She hadn't got hurt in three weeks, which is a huge fucking surprise. Of course, she's still taking therapy for her chest and shoulders (just so her mom doesn't find her dead one morning).

For once there wasn't any single piece of drama in their life. Her relationship with Cooper was a-okay. Matter of fact, Gretal had the decency of asking him out one night when they went to get some coffee. (She knows Cooper's too fucking shy to man up and ask her out on a date). So of course, they started dating. With a few exceptions.

Every so often there would be a nearby accident and Gretal would have to flash a apologetic smile at Cooper and run to the nearest bathroom just to change. She knew he wasn't exactly okay with it, especially since she got shot two months ago. It's fine, I'll be okay, she said every time she tried to reassure him, if anything you should stop worrying about my ass and worry about the criminals', because they're about to get kicked where the sun don't shine.

Then there was Oscar. They still had their shitty relationship where Oscar would steal Gretal's Doritos, and in return she would punch him in the face. It was the best friendship anyone could ever have.

Then you have John. Who's still a shitty partner/boss. Gretal wonders what he would ever do about Beatrice nowadays. She imagines the first few weeks when she became a sidekick, how John got sick and she had to fucking play nurse. Just thinking about makes her want to throw up.

And of course, the best for last. Gabe Fisher, the little lemon. They still haven't figured what his power was, but John said it will come sooner or later. Not only that, but Gabe was starting middle school next month. And after sixth grade was Baystone Academy. Apparently, students are sent at an early age so they'll get used to it (Gretal wonders who came up with that shitty reason). So of course, Gabe and Gretal find themselves looking at pamphlets, magazines, videos, of the "wonderful" academy for the entire summer.

Speaking of school. Since Gretal was in the hospital for an entire month, her teachers decide to be nice to her and give her extra credit work to bring up her failing grades. She basically passed eleventh grade by an inch.

Besides her regular life, everything seemed fine. Of course, Alexander Davidson hadn't even dared to contact her. He's been pretty busy trying to keep his business from crashing down. Apparently, Arachne - or Paris - stole all his money a few weeks before she was captured.

Speaking of Paris-

John ran towards Gretal, who was sitting on the couch with Gabe while reading a comic book. He took a deep breath, his iPhone and stupid phone case that had him as Electric on it. (It's part of his merchandise.)

"Gretal-" He swallowed. "A-Arachne, she"- another deep breath -" she escaped!"

Gretal tried her best to look shocked as much as possibled, throwing curse words here and there. She guessed it worked since John seemed to go along with it.

Gabe stood up, eyes wide. "What?"

Gretal quickly grabbed his hand and gently guided him back in the couch to calm him down.

John shook his head. "There's no trace of her. She left a letter in her cell saying she's won't be an America. But someone must've let her out! The S.I.A is trying to find out who by checking the security cameras, but they were all turned off. Every single one in the building."
