Gwen:
Gunshots were fired in the distance. My ears were ringing nonstop. "Quick! Barricade the door!!" I yelled out. My legs were giving way and my back was sliding down from the door. I felt a scream creep up into my throat. I pushed it down but then I felt a furious kick against the door send pain shooting up my spine and I couldn't hold it back. My body was shaking non-stop and the corners of my vision were turning black. "Derek!!" I screamed. My body couldn't take much more of this. "Hold on Gwen!! Just a couple more seconds!!" Derek replied. The discomfort was coursing through, it was reaching to beneath my skin inside my bones. "I can't do this any longer." I thought. "No you promised. And you don't break promises."
Somehow, somewhere deep inside me a surge of strength came over me and I pushed back on the door with all my force. I was screeching my head off. My back was filled with cuts and the bullet wound in my shoulder was throbbing now, blood running freely down it. "Derek! C'mon!! I can't hold it much longer!!" I screamed. My shoulders and cuts were going numb and I was getting light headed. The strength was rapidly draining from my body. Tears were flowing freely down my face.
Then all of a sudden the locks behind me were locking. The bolts inside the door were drilling into the wall, sealing them shut. Everything buzzed with life, working to close the doors. Then everything went quiet. "Safe. We're safe now" I stood up and I heard feet pounding against the concrete. I looked to my right and saw Derek. He was running towards me and I stumbled over to him. "Help." I squeaked out. "Its ok, I got you." He said. He threw an arm around my shoulder and I slumped against him. My body was shaking, while his was still. "C'mon. You need some rest." Derek said. "No. I don't need sleep Derek. I need to get to the infirmary." I said. My voice was lower then usually and it sounded like nails on a chalk board. "Ok. Let's go Gwen." He said. His voice was smooth and calm. It was really soothing. My eyes were drooping and I couldn't stay up. "Derek. Can you carry me?" I said. My voice sounded strangly delirious. "Really? When do you ever ask me to do something for you?" He said. Something inside of me snapped and I thought of a comeback. "I'm sorry but I got shot and stabbed multiple times. So will you please carry me?"I said. I clenched my jaw through the pain. I lifted my chin up and tried to stand unsupported. Derek's eyes widened at my comment. "You got shot?! Why didn't you tell me?!" He slid his arm underneath my knee and placed one on my back. He slowly lifted me up and I put my arms around my neck. "You didn't need to worry about me Derek. You had to make sure everyone else was safe." I said. He suddenly stopped walking. His cropped blonde hair gleamed under the lights of the hallway. He leaned in close to me and looked into my eyes. His hazel eyes were mesmerizing. I couldn't look away, they consumed me. I shook my head. "What am I thinking?" I thought. "You mean a lot to me Gwen and I'm not going to let you leave me just because you care about everyone else. Ok?" He said. Their was intensity behind his words. Deep down inside me something stirred but I ignored it. "Ok", I said. I nodded slowly. "Alright lets go." he said. His legs pushed off from the concrete and walked toward the infirmary. My eyelids felt heavier by the second. My breathing evened out and I fell asleep in Derek's arms.
