Gwen:
My eyes snapped open and I felt the plane tipping down dangerously. "That's not supposed to happen." I rolled off the bed and planted my feet on the ground., sprinting to the other end of the control room. I lifted Derek's head up and found him sleeping at the wheel. I slid into the seat next to him and switched on the auto pilot. I sighed and ran a hand through the length of my curly hair. "What would he do without me?" I thought. "Derek. Derek." I shook his shoulders until his eyelids flashed open revealing his bright hazel eyes. He rubbed them groggily and then leaned back in his seat. "What?" He said annoyed. A smile spread across my face and I saw him calm down a bit. "I think you need to sleep Derek." I said. "Why would you say that?" he said tilting his head to the side. "I say that because if I didn't wake up as soon as I did, we would have been in a plane crash." I said. I watched his eyes widened, they looked like they were ready to pop out of their sockets. "Seriously?" He uttered. I nodded my head yes and watched as he went to the bunk. "Wake me up when we get to... Where ever we're supposed to go." I turned around and felt something uin my pocket vibrate. "Whats that?" I had no idea what it was and I looked down and found my new cell phone peaking out of it. "That must be what it is." I cautiously pulled it out, like it might bite me at any moment. I held it in my hand and read the bright green words that flashed on the clear screen. "Accept or ignore?" My mouth scrunched up in thought. "How do I answer this?" I had no idea, I had never even seen a phone before yesterday. "You have to press the word accept." Derek said. I jumped in my seat and blushed. "Of course you press it. What did you think you had to do? Dance an irish jig or something?" I pressed accept and mouthed thank you to him. "Took you long enough." I heard the general's raspy voice come in through the speakers. I had no idea what to do. I hesitated before putting it up to my ear. "Well its not my fault you didn't teach me how to use a cell phone." I snapped. If anyone else said this to him I was positive that they wouldn't live to see another day.
But that was thing. I wasn't just anyone, I was Gwen Lisette. Daughter of one of the the best generals in history. The general was my dad's best friend and when my dad died he took me in. He sheltered me and taught me everything I know about the army. how to carry myself, how to lead others and the most important hide emotions. He knew how hard it was for me to get over my parents dying, his sister left the same way. He understood and he told me to at least look strong. I could be feeling a wave of emotions, not knowing what to do or what to think but he knew. he helped me. He was like an uncle to me. "Well I thought you were perfectly capable of clicking a single button. I guess I was wrong." I puckered my lips into a pout. That wasn't funny. Or nice. "Whatever. Why did you call?" I said into the phone. I heard him sigh before answering, "As unflattering as it seems, your going to a ball." He said. I slumped my shoulders and pinched the bridge of my nose. "A ball. Great."

I let out a sigh when the plane touched the ground. I was so not looking forward to this. To me dresses were like a cage. The kept me confined and immobilized. They were not comfortable. I walked over to the end of the room and shook Derek by his shoulders. "Mh ugh." I heard him say. "What?" I thought confused. "Derek! Derek!" I hissed. He twisted himself in the bed, ignoring my attempts to wake him up. I rolled my eyes. "I can't believe I'm doing this." I climbed into the bed and sat on top of him. I heard him grunt but other than that he didn't even notice I was there. "Derek!! Come on!! Get up!" I tapped his face lightly. I felt him groan before pushing me off him. "What is it?" He snapped. "We just landed." I said patiently. I would never be this patient with him if he hadn't just woken up. I couldn't stand when people ignored me. "Where are we?" he said, his hazel eyes curious. "His eyes are gorgeous." The bright green popped out against the brown flecks of his eyes, like fresh spring grass shooting out of dirt. "Why didn't I notice this before?" For some reason there was a tugging in my stomach, urging me closer to him. "Gwen? Is there something on my face?" I shook my head, clearing it of my thoughts. Derek was certainly attractive but it was strange to me. I never thought of the possibility of my best friend being something more than that. "Where are we?" He asked impatiently.
"We're at the Crest Bay." I said.
"The hotel?" He swung is feet off the bed and walked to the other end of the room, his large hand on the door handle.
"Yea. Oh we're going to a ball." He stopped right in his tracks and spun around. "Why are we going to a ball?" His eyebrow arched at what I said. His face was so strange I wanted to burst out laughing. "Apparently some of the scientists behind the 'cure.' The General wants us to meet up with them and eventually convince them to take us to their labs." He nodded is head in understanding. "C'mon we have to go get ready."

I had to admit, the general knew what looked good. He was nice enough to supply us with dresses for the ball. "Does it? I don't know Macy. What do you think Jess?" I allowed myself to sound girly for just this moment. I hated dresses but this dress was beautiful and gorgeous. Its strap across my shoulder fit great and its burgundy color let my eyes stand out more. For once I wasn't considered about tripping or falling flat on my face, it was comfortable and I didn't feel restricted. I felt free. "Gwen have you looked at yourself? You're gorgeous!" Jess said. She brushed a strand of unruly, red hair out of her eyes, giving me a crooked smile. I couldn't help but return it. "So," Macy rubbed her hands and smiled devilishly. "That's not good." "You ready for your make up?" She said. My face stiffened when the words left her mouth. "Uh-Oh"

"1," "Please don't be too much, please!" "2," A whimper escaped my mouth I hated when people over did make up, actually I hated any type of make up. "3!" I was spun around in the seat and my eyes bulged out of their sockets. It wasn't too much or too little. It was just right. For once I thought of myself as beautiful. With my hair in a bun I looked mature and sophisticated so much different than how i usually look. "Thanks Jess and Macy you guys did great work." They smiled at me and I gave them the biggest grin I could muster. I heard a knocking at the door and I rushed to it, not wanting to make the person wait. I opened it up and saw Derek in a tux with his jaw dropped.
