My breaths were heavy and long as I ran through the halls of Beacon Hills High.

The darkness had swallowed me in, suffocating me, making it impossible to see anything. I couldn't hear anything else then my own breaths and my heavy footsteps along the tile. I had been running for so long that my lungs and heart were aching but something made me keep going. I couldn't stop. I knew someone was after me, but I hadn't seen or heard whoever it was. With every step I took it felt like something broke my legs, sending such pain through my body.

But I couldn't scream, I could only run.

I looked behind me, but found myself disappointed once again when the only thing I saw was complete and utter darkness. Or maybe that's what made me more frightened.

I reached the library, and stopped running, catching my breath in the process. I reached my hand out to touch the door and it was locked. There was no escape.

"No!" I screamed, "No! This should be open!" My voice echoed in the dark halls as I started pounding on the door with my hands.

Then I froze, I felt something. It was a feeling of someone else's presence. I spun around and looked down the hall.

But there was no one. I leaned my head against the door and let out a deep breath of relief.

There was no one there. But just as I thought that, a low chuckle sound reached my ear and the next second I suddenly smelt smoke, and my heart nearly sank to the pit of my stomach. It felt as if two hands were wrapped around my neck, choking me to my death. Someone grabbed my arm pulling me closer to the ground. I was slowly beginning to lose air.

I rolled onto my stomach, breathing heavily as I tried to fill my lungs with enough oxygen. I sat up and saw a man standing above me.

Panic begins to spread throughout my body as I thought it couldn't get any worse.

That was until hundreds of piercing screams filled my ears. I slam my hands to try to conceal the ear bleeding cries, but nothing was able to block it out.

I was unable to bear this torment anymore, closing my eyes tightly and falling into an abyss of darkness.

The grip grew stronger around my neck and my body soon lifted off the ground. My lungs hurt with every breath I tried to take. I thrashed my feet below me, trying to keep whoever was strangling me, but to no avail. I couldn't see the person who was gripping my neck, which made me even more terrified. My heart was beating so fast that I felt as though it would explode at any second. But the only thing I could focus on was the grip around my neck. I wanted to disappear, for all of this to be unreal, but I couldn't do anything. The strength had already withered away, out of my body.

"Please," I begged in a low voice. I could feel tears streaming down my cheek, burning against my cold skin.

A slice was made across my stomach, causing me to screech out in sheer agony, the pain shooting across my entire body. The hand was removed from my neck, and I took a much need breath. I then clutched my side, feeling nothing but a gash and blood.

Then everything stopped; the screams around me quickly faded out and I was able to close my eyes with relief.

A bright light shines directly on my face, causing my eyes to slowly pry back open. I'm dazed and confused. The grass beneath me tickles my feet and arms.

I sit up and quickly grasp my stomach: there was nothing there. No wound, no blood, no pain.

I look around my surroundings; I seem to be in a meadow. A secret escape, my mother would call it. But why was I here when I was just at the school moments ago?

I slowly stand up, cautious to what was happening and what could potentially happen.

"It's good to see you again Lainy," I heard from behind me and I whip my head around to see my mom smiling as she leaned against the pine tree.

"Mom?" I gasped in disbelief.

I ran over to her, quickly wrapping my arms around her torso.

We stay like this for a while. She was here, this was real.

But one thing still lingered in my mind: how?

a/n: hey guys so there's probably a lot of confusion right now so I'm just going to clear a few things up! Okay so Deucalion has taken control over her, meaning he is in manipulation over her powers and decides what she does. When this happens to her she is completely unaware of it and is trapped in her subconscious while her body is, in a way, a void (season 3b reference LOL anyways) and of course it will go into further detail as the story wraps up and even more during the sequel (yes there's going to be more of this series, Elaine's story isn't done yet) so I hope that helps!!
Thanks for all the reads, comments, and votes!! You all are amazing.
Love always,
Saige
