I don't know how long I've been sitting out here in the hallway, but I need to go back in soon.
Taking a deep breath, I stood up and pull the door open to walk in.
"Good you're back!" Mr. Smith smiled. "Are you feeling better now?" He asked.
"I never felt bad, just agitated. That's all." I said looking at him. "But yes. I'm much better now. Thank you." I finished as I walked back to my seat.
I felt everyone's eyes on me, but I didn't look up. They can stare all they want, it doesn't bother me anymore. After a few moments of silence, they finally looked away.
I exhaled a breath I didn't know I was holding as Mr. Smith began to speak again. "Alright, well as you know, we do our duet performances twice a semester, and that time is approaching quickly." He told us.
Harry and I looked at each other almost immediately.
Mr. Smith chuckled, making us turn back to him. "You two may not duet together this time. It gives you too much of an advantage. I've already picked your duet partners." He said pointing at us.
I saw Harry frowning from the corner of my eyes. We're always duet partners. "Well, who are our partners then?" One of the girls, Macy, I believe her name is, asked.
"Macy, you are going to be with Zayn." He said. She smiled over at Zayn, and he groaned. "Perrie, you will be with Louis." He said looking between them.
Louis sat up, throwing his arm up. "Can I switch partners with Zayn?" He asked, not waiting to be called on.
"Do you have a problem with Ms. Edwards?" Mr. Smith asked Louis.
"Oh. Of course not. It's just, I think their voices would blend together a lot better." Louis smiled.
Mr. Smith nodded. "Okay, Macy you are with Louis. Perrie you are now with Mr. Malik." He said changing their names in his book. "Mr. Styles." He said looking at Harry, who still looked upset. "You will be with... Taylor."
Harry stood up quickly with wide eyes. "What? You can't do that! Please. Anyone but her." He yelled.
No, scratch that. He was begging.
"Awe. What's wrong Harry? You don't like me?" Taylor grinned at Harry.
He was full on glaring now. "You know I don't like you." He said before turning back to our teacher. "Mr. Smith. Please." He pleaded again.
"Just give it a try, Mr. Styles." Was all he replied.
Harry let out a frustrated sigh. "Why do you hate me so much?"
Mr. Smith continued, ignoring Harry. "Niall, you and Jade will sing together."
Niall and Jade both jumped up and shouted a "yes!" and smiled at each other. It's pretty clear to the boys and I that they 'secretly' have a thing for each other. But they never tell each other.
"Josh, you're with Jamie. Jake, you are with Lyla." He continued to read off partners. Leaving me for last. "And Ms. Styles. You get Liam. Lucky him." He smiled.
My eyes flashed over to Liam, who to my surprise, was already looking at me with a small smile. I gave him a small smile back before looking down again.
This should be fun. I mean, how am I going to pay attention, or be able to focus? How am I going to focus with his glorious chocolate brown eyes staring at me? What if I can't get him to speak to me? Will he sing if he doesn't like to talk? But he does talk, I heard him trying to reason with Donny this morning.
I felt a light tap on my shoulder, making me jump pulling me out of my thoughts. I looked up to see my brother standing next to me with Liam. "Mr. Smith told us to sit next to our partner, so I brought Liam over here." He said giving me a worried look. "Are you okay, Em?" He asked.
I took a deep breath. "Yeah. I'm fine." I told him, looking at him now to give him a small smile.
My eyes wondered over to Liam, who was watching us. "Here Liam, you can sit in the chair next to me." I said cleaning the next seat off.
"Well, if you need me, I'll be over there, working on the duet with...ugh..." He said walking away towards Taylor.
I watched as he sat down next to her in a huff as she immediately started talking. I chuckled as he didn't even pretend to listen. He just took his phone out and tapped away.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. I knew it was from Harry. I glanced at Liam, who was already looking at me. I felt my face heat up a little, but I didn't turn away. "He hates her so much." I told him, pulling my phone to read the text. I chuckled and handed my phone to Liam so he could read it.
From Harold: "Can we just kill me now? I hate this so much. She drives me crazy... And not in good way. >:( "
Liam smiled, but sent Harry an apologetic look.
Harry just shrugged and turned back to Taylor, saying something that made her shut up and start frowning. Liam handed me my phone back, and I typed a quick reply.
To Harold: "Awe. Suck it up cupcake. You'll be alright. X"
I heard Liam chuckle beside me, making me look at him. He suddenly quieted, and looked back down. I smiled, guess I could give this a try.
"Hey." I said. He looked up into my eyes. "I'm Emilia. But the boys call me Em." I said, holding my hand out for him to shake.
I watched him as he hesitated. A few seconds later, he put his hand into mine, lightly shaking it.
"H-hi. I'm... My name i-is Li-Liam." He said quietly. I almost had to strain to hear him.
I gave him a small smile. "Hello Li-Liam. It's great to have you in the class." I said. He smiled when I didn't just say "Liam".
We looked down noticing our hands still connected. "Oh. Sorry." I mumbled, taking my hands away slowly.
I felt a blush creeping to my face.
"It's okay, Emilia." He paused. "To be honest, it's the most comforted I felt all day. "He sighed.
My heart fluttered a little when he said my name.... what is this?
I looked at him while he watched his hands. "You know, Liam, you can talk to me, or the boys over there. Not all of us are like Donny, or those other girls." I told him.
He looked at me now, studying my face for a few minutes. "Thank you." He mumbled. "It means a lot to me."
