"Hey." I mumbled as I took my seat next to Liam in our music class the next day.
He turned to me with a small smile. "Hey, you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. Just really tired." I lied.
On the way here, Donny reached out and pinched my arm really hard, and I can already feel it bruising. Oh, and if that didn't do the trick, he elbowed me in the back, knocking the breath out of me.
Liam snapped his fingers in front of my face, pulling me out of my memory of a few moment ago. "Hey. Welcome back." He said, giving a warm smile.
"Sorry." I mumbled. "Couldn't sleep last night. Harry had Niall stay last night, and they talked quite loudly, keeping me up." I said.
"You could have called me, or sent me a text." He mumbled.
I smiled over at him. "Thanks, but I didn't want to keep you up."
He was about to say something else, but Mr. Smith walked in to start the class. He announced we would be doing cliché love songs.
I looked at Harry sitting next to Taylor, who had a huge grin on her face. Harry was tapping away on his phone and then suddenly looked at me.
"What?" I mouthed. My question was answered when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I chuckled and pulled it out to read the text.
From Harold: "Is he serious? I can't sing love songs with Taylor..."
To Harold: "I'm sure you will be okay. Just don't look at her when you sing." I chuckled.
From Harold: "I'm serious Em. I would rather sing to my worst enemy... Oh wait!! I will be..."
"Styles?" Mr. Smith called out, Harry and I looked up at him. "Would you like to share your messages with us?" He asked.
Harry and I exchanged a look. "No sir." We both said, putting our phones away.
The class went by quickly after that. Mr. Smith called us up with our partner, giving us the song we would be singing. "What'd you get?" I asked Harry as everyone but our little group left the class.
"A Thousand Years by Christina Perri..." He groaned "What did you get?"
Liam smile. "Little Things. Ed Sheeran. A personal favorite of mine." He spoke softly.
Harry stared at him. "He speaks!" Harry suddenly cheered. Everyone turned to give him a weird look.
Liam chuckle. "Yeah. I've been speaking since I was maybe one and a half." He said.
Harry laughed. "Hey Em, are you staying for practice today?" He asked.
Niall jumped in." Yeah! You haven't stayed to watch for a while."
"Yeah, we miss you." Zayn spoke behind Harry.
I chuckled at them and pulled my phone out of my pocket. No text from dad. "Yeah. I'll stay after today." I told them with a smile.
"Yes!" The four boy cheered together.
I turned to Liam, "do you want to stay after with us?" I asked.
"I'll give you a ride home later." Harry smiled.
He looked around to see everyone watching him with hopeful eyes. "Alright. I'll go." He said with a smile on his face.
The boys cheered and ran from the room so they weren't late. "Ready?" I asked as I picked up the rest of my things.
"Yeah." He said as we walked from the music room. "What do you do at practice?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at me.
I adjusted my bag on my shoulder so it wasn't digging into my skin. "Not much really. They just like me hanging out with them." I smiled.
He chuckled as we walked through the back doors of the school, towards the football field. The heat had picked up a lot from lunch. "It got really hot, yeah?" He stated as he shrugged off his jacket.
"Ye-yeah." I mumbled, tearing my eyes from his rather large biceps.
"Aren't you going to take your jacket off?" He turned to me.
I felt my body tense up inside. "Nah. I'm alright." I replied as I looked elsewhere.
"You're going to burn up." He chuckled as we made it to the football field where the boys were.
I set my bag down and kicked the stray ball back on the field to Niall. "Thanks!" He yelled.
I gave him a smile and a thumbs up and sat down. I patted the grass next to me so Liam could sit with me. He took the offer and leaned back against the seats. "Are you nervous about our duet?" He asked.
I smiled over at him. "Not really. Are you?"
He shrugged. "A little. I don't think I can really sing that well. Someone at my old school told me I shouldn't, because we were partners one time. So... Yeah.. I'm really nervous."
I turned to my bag and pulled out the music and handed him a copy. "Let's give it a look now." I suggested.
He took a deep breath and took the music from my hands. "Alright. But don't laugh at me. Please?" He said.
I gave him a disbelieving look. "I don't laugh at people Liam. So, you don't have to worry. I just laugh at Harold." I said.
He smiled. "Alight. How about you sing the first and third verse, I'll sing the second and fourth. Then, both of us can sing the last verse, and the choruses together." He suggested.
I flipped through the pages, smiling as I read the words to myself. "Sounds perfect." I said.
"Hey Em! Can you come here please. Couch needs someone to look at Niall's ankle. And the personal trainer is with a different sport. Niall twisted his ankle pretty good though." Louis said, running toward us.
I sent Liam an apologetic smile. "I'll be right back." I said as I stood up and ran with Louis to check Niall's ankle.
